If you could get only one book, it should be "The Painters Guide to WW2 Naval Camouflage" by Patrick Hreachmack. A good series of books is "Warship Pictorial" by Classic Warships Publishing, but they only cover one ship at a time.

here are some good links

I've been wanting to get Alan Raven's Warships Perspectives serieswith its four volumes on the Royal Navy, but alas, no funds for the purchase, all my capital is tied up in new business startups. So what I've been doing in the meantime is looking on the internet. Most helpful site so far has been www.modelwarships.com. They have a gallery of completed ships going back to 2000 that has hundreds of expertly completed kits with many good pictures and write-ups to use for reference. ...and if I can't find it there, I ask here.
