I agree Grant, I never look at or follow any links that are spam. Unfortunately SPAM is a way of online life so to speak. I often wonder if any of it actually works. Who would actually click and say Dam I really need that LOL : ).

The reason we have so much Spam is that, sadly, it works. It is virtually free to send millions and millions of pieces of Spam. All it takes is half-a-dozen "takers" to make it quite lucrative.

Even my father-in-law, very savvy generally, got taken in. He had just made a purchase at Best Buy the day before when he got a phishing e-mail from "Best Buy." Fortunately he called me and I told him to immediately cancel the credit card, so no harm done.

But had it worked thay could have gotten 5, 10 or $15,000 off his card. You don't have to "hit" a lot of those to make it pay. And when most of these are in countries very far outside the arm of the Western law (esp. some of the republics from the former USSR) even if they figure out who you are, it's not you're likely to go to jail. More like have to cut in the local poice for a piece of ghe pie....

On another forum, the admins found that most of it was coming from a certain set of email addresses (yahoo.com), so they just banned those email addresses (current members excluded).

One other solution would be to have the GHQ admins set it up so that all new members have to get approved before registering. I don't think anyone would get upset if they had to wait a day or two before getting registered as a user.
I wish I had something witty to say...

Seems like a lot is coming from "mail.ru" or "web.de".
I just went to the last few pages of the membership list here and there are at least 20 new members each day. That would be great if they were real members but I see many of the same fake names as was registering on my forums. I now have suspended new memberships.
GHQ should go through the membership list and delete all the names that are using ad words as names. And ban any name with an offending or clue word. Any name with the word "** CENSORED **" or "** CENSORED **" in it should be a clue and not let them register.

Just a friendly reminder to ignore the spam.
That is, of course unless you really need Ñar insurance!

Never knew I had a Ñar... let alone that it needed insured!!

So... just how much coverage should I get for my Ñar? Full replacement? Or maybe just what it's actually worth?

Regards,
Tom Stockton
