Everyone - I'm part way through reading "Achtung Schweinehund!" by Harry Pearson. Mr. Pearson is an English sportswriter who happens to also be a wargamer. He recounts his personal history as a wargamer (starting with Airfix figures, of course), a history of wargaming in Britain, and his memories of growing up in the late '60's and early '70's. You'll recognize the counterparts of some of the wargamers you know(and maybe yourself). I've laughed and winced at his descriptions of English wargamers.
Mr. Pearson looks on his hobby with both the understanding of an insider and the detached point of view of a professional observer. His style reminds me of Mark Twain, maybe he sees facts that no one else does, but he tells a great story.
Thanks Joe for telling me about this book.
