Disorder is treated like any other formation. "Recovering" from disorder is a formation change, see Section 6.51.
For a unit to change formation, during the posture phase, posture the unit in movment posture. If they pass their cohesion during the movement phase you can arrange the unit into whatever formation you choose.
Now if you have a commander attached to the unit then you can apply his command bonus to your cohesion roll.
Example: A unit with a cohesion of 14 and a level 1 commander attached is in disorder. During the posture determination phase you mark the unit as being in movement posture, when activated, roll a d20 against the units cohesion of 14 but subtract one from the roll. You roll a 15 on the dice, subtract 1 for a total of 14. The unit passes and can be placed in any formation you want facing any direction.
Does that help?
