How long are 1/1200 Napoleonic ships?

Post by Terrible Tim »

How long approximately are 1/1200 Napoleonic ships? 100 gun, 74 gun etc. I have some old ships and I am trying to work out what scale they are.
The ships hull length for a 100 to 120 gun is about 50mm (2"), which would make it about 60m (198 foot) in real life. Does that sound about right?

Thanks for your help,
TT.

Using famous historical ships for comparison:
HMS Victory was a 100-gun first-rate. She had a length of 227 feet, 6 inches overall. In 1/1200 scale, this is about 2 1/4 inches.
USS Constitution was a 44-gun frigate. She had a length of 204 feet overall. In 1/1200 scale, this is just over 2 inches.

Based on this, your models are almost certainly 1/1200 scale.
