USS Saratoga photos?

Post by tedwaterhouse »

I'm looking for a good clear photo of the port side of USS Saratoga, CV3, in her 1945 Ms.32 camo scheme - for painting the GHQ kit, of course. The only one I've found so far is the areil shot in Squadron/Signal's U.S. Aircraft Carriers in Action Part 1 which isn't really clear enough to show the delineation of the lighter colors and doen't show the entire side view. Does anyone know of the existence of a better shot and where it might be found?

Ted,

Checkout this link of a model of Saratoga that a modeler posted on the ModelWarships.com photo gallery webpage. Here's the link:

There is a nice photo of the port side MS 32-11A design (in color) camo pattern that CV-3 Saraotaga wore in September 1944.

Hope this helps.

Scott

Navsource (www.navsource.org) has a large library of photographs of almost every USN ship. However, I could not find in their files a 1945 port-side photo of CV-3 in Ms.32.

Great model on modeljobs of the USS Saratoga. Too bad the photos had a background of the car, and house....if it had been of water(next to a pool or lake/pond) or in a harbor looking background..... Amazing work.

Ted,

The information you need is right here, straight from the USN itself:

http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/imag ... 65991c.htm

It is a link to the actual blue print for how Measure 32 design 11A was going to be applied to Sara.

The US Naval Historical Center has plenty more images like that of other US ships as well for the late war period.
