How do you protect your terrain when transporting?
I'm making terrain using GHQ's Terrain Maker hexes. To those who are doing something similar, how do you keep your woods hexes (which are full of trees that stick up) from getting crushed? How do you store them and transport them to conventions?

Transporting Terrain
Hi Saxophone
I use GHQ's terrain maker for my games. To transport my pieces, I use Rubbermaid type containers. Currently, to transport my standard European summer terrain, it takes 5 of these containers for what I have.
The dimensions are about 19 x 16 x 6 or so but all of mine aren't exactly the same. I have 1 container for all my road and field hexes, 1 for the flat hexes, 1 deeper container for my hills and slopes, 1 for my river and stream hexes and 1 for "miscelleaneous and overflow.
I arrange the hexes in stacks in each container with several stacks in each one. I transport my woods hexes on the top layer in each container leaving enough room so that they will not get crushed by putting the lid on.
This has worked quite well for me - I transport this stuff to the local game store which is about a 35 minute drive from my house. I haven't had any big problems with anything getting damaged using this method.

Here is something I have recently been using for my GHQ terrain:
I use the original boxes they shipped in, with the trays. I use styrofoam drinking cups (upside down) as spacers. They take the weight just fine and are taller than the trees and buildings and such. If I put mostly flat hexes on one tray, then I can use the drink cups to stack two more fully "terrained" trays on top.
