I've been lurking here for quite sometime but have finally succumbed to the bug. I've got my first order on the way in a Box set and I am getting started in making the terrain. I need a little inspiration. Could someone post some pics of the light fighting positions?
And I'm a bit torn between basing my armor and not. Basing means I can store and transport on magnetic stuff in the box, but I really like the looks of the armor without the bases.
Anyway, I'm happy to have found a great wealth of information here.
Thanks

Hey man, nice to see you posting. And welcome of course!
Personally I don't like basing my armor either. I don't like the green bases on a grey road, although I understand why people base them (like for identification). Just an idea: why not glue little magnets under your armor? I bought a bunch of cheap small magnets in different sizes on Ebay and glued them with some epoxy between he tracks. Maybe not needed for you, but I glued tiny cylindrical magnets under the turrets too, so that I can transport them safely by bike (turrets can still turn, but stick to the other 'hull' magnet). Now all my armor fits in those metal money boxes. Just ask if you want some pictures.
Greetings, Patrick

Welcome to the community...
This link will take you to some ideas about basing your micro armor...
http://commandoperationscenter.com/products111.htm
Here is a picture of one method that has allowed the use of metal bases and magnetic storage boxes by unit as you will notice on the page in the link above.

Please disregard the fact we used a WW2 tank transport to fill a more modern roll but without current product sometimes we must make due with what is available.

Hello Badkarma
First of all welcome to the forums. As for basing I to like and dislike, now when it comes to micronauts which is what i do most of at this time i do base my ships. I have found that most people when gaming love for some reason to grab ships by masts. So, basing them really cuts down on repairs after gaming.
As for inspiration several links on here will get you all the inspiration you need. Show us your stuff you can spend hours looking at all the projects and things people have built. And show us your stuff micronaut link is in here awesome to.
There use to be a whole link just on basing also dont know if it still is on the forum.
Any way enjoy yourself and remember its really now what others think when it comes to your modeling and painting, its if you like it and that really is all that matters.

Hi Bad Karma
First of all, welcome to the forum. I hope you will enjoy being part of this great group of fellow gamers and micro armor and micronaut enthusiasts.
Regarding basing - I base my infantry and Artillery/AT guns. I do this in order to better handle the miniutures without damage. I don't base my tanks and trucks etc. because I prefer the look of unbased vehicles on the terrain so that you don't have a tank on grass moving in a city. I may base some of my modern vehicles when I get around to painting them to play Modern Micro Armor the Game since the bases are sort of a critical component of this system as the base also represents the frontage of the unit.
Since most of my WWII gaming is done at the individual vehicle and squad level I only base what I need.
I also have some ships and would also recommend basing these. Some of the guys on the forum here have some really nice ocean effects for their micronauts.
Have a great day and welcome aboard!

Hey, Bad Karma, and welcome!
I'm in the camp of 'base everything'. I like being able to identify units. I also like things to look like they belong together, and based infantry tend to tower over vehicles, a look I don't like.
My method is to make vehicle bases only slightly larger than the 'footprint' of the vehicle, leaving barely enough room for the ID tag (ie; I don't use the 1" square base idea). My bases are not mini dioramas as you see from some folk here; as beautiful as they are, they can look a bit out of place on some terrain. As it is, I have to put up with a bit of grass in odd places (road marches, bridges, landing craft...)
The second thing for me is that I base on styrene sheet and use 2 thicknesses; 1mm thick for vehicles and 0.75mm for infantry. This takes up some of the cast base of the figures and brings their boot/track level as close as I can get it.
basically, as has been said already, the two main things to consider are what you like the look of, and how you like to game (and who you game with!). Both of these can have a bearing on the system you choose.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas and advice. I think I'm going to base them with a minimum size of base for the ease of storage and transport.
Will, next time I'm on that side of the state I'd love to drop by and see that setup in person!!!!
Another question:
Do most of you build your playing boards to change easily or are they built to never change? The amount of detail that I see on some of these boards is mind boggling, but does not look like you can change them very easily for a different battle.
Thanks everyone,
Lee
