Tank Identification Help

Post by HKurban »

At the MOUT site at Fort Knox, they have a rusting hulk of what looks like an M60 variant of some sort. The primary armament on this vehicle seems most unorthadox and I can't find any description of what it might be. Any ideas?

Looks like an M-60A2

Probably an old gunfire simulator. Just got left in place, I guess...

They still do special effects there. A lot. In further research I have found that this is actually an M48 with an M60A2 Turret. Go figure.

Aside from being really beat-up the five barrel rig does make it look kind of neat. 8)

It is a M60A2 turret mounted on an M48 hull. Not sure what the 5 tubes are could be the pyro technics mount for the old Hoffman training system but that is just speculation.

Looks cool

The hull looks to have a bow or curve in front, so that would be a M48. The turret is from M60A2. The five tubes are a smoke, simulator, or some other purpose attachment.

Thank you for sharing.

A friend of mine pointed out, that the hull seems to have 7 track rollers. The last one is barely visible in the back.
So it might be an M103 hull.
