Hi guys,
got 2 questions concerning artillery:
1. Am I right that Artillery hitting armoured vehicles put their AP firepower against the vehicle´s top defense?
2. Indirect fire arrives several turns after it is plotted. Rule 7.10 says that any other countries than America, GB and Germany must plot their indirect fire for the entire game before the game starts. So far so good, but how many turns will be at minimum between plotting (Turn 0) and the impact? For the Germans there can be no impact before turn six.
Rule 7.10 § 4 says that the Americans must plot their indirect fire for the first three turns before the start. But here I´m also curious, if there might be any impact in turn one or two? I´d say first impact may be in turn three, but I´m not sure at all...

good morning Ragnar,
issue 1 - yes, an arty stands ap value is applied to armored vehicles in/under/on the impact marker.
issue 2 - I would encourage you to consider the rules of arrival only for fire missions plotted by on board fo's on turn 1 or later. Really a defender should/could have fire missions arriving on turn 1 in most types of scenarios ( expect meeting engagements and maybe a hasty attack - i'd have to reveiw my notes on that) regardless of nationality. These missions would obviously be plotted on terrain point coordinates prior to the appearance of attackers units on board. And there should be limits on how many the plots the defender may get.
I forgot my rules at home before I left on vacation so i can't help with any referenecs to them but re-read the MS arty rules section and use your best judgement and have fun.

This should clear it up. Per WWII Microsquad optional rule 12.2
[12.2] The Hot Shot!
If, when a player makes a Firing Cohesion Roll, he rolls a natural (i.e. unmodified) "1", it means that this stand has achieved a "remarkable" success. Shift the attack two columns to the right on the Combat Results Table before determining combat results.
If the firing unit is a mortar stand or off-map artillery and the target unit is an armored vehicle, the column shift does not apply. Instead, the unit is attacked using the vehicles top armor.
When playing, I always use this optional rule.

Well, I need to know which defense I use for AFV hitten by Arty, not where the stand is to be placed...

Good morning Ragnar,
Sorry I didn't read your 1st question clearly.
I don't have the book in front of me and I didn't write the MS rules but here's how I would play it. I'd use a fully enclosed armored vehicles side armor (e.g. a Tank), but open topped armored vehicles such as half tracks or even SU-76 or a marder IIIs, would use their rear armor.
And as Microgeorge said if you roll a 1 on the cohesion roll, use any vehicles top value.
good gaming,
RedLeif
