Where to get civilian accessories in 1/285?

Post by Ragnar65 »

Hi guys,

my latest pics of my village seemed a bit (or a lot?) liveless, because there´s only some building, but no civilian guys or any kind of stuff laying around.

So I´d like to know if there is any supplier who offers such stuff...

Any hint will be much appreciated.

Have some wonderful X-Mas-Days!!!!

Due to this forum being hosted by GHQ, links or references to other providers products are discouraged and or not permitted topics.

Since you've contacted me by e-mail I'll send you my list that way.

I've created a yahoo group called MATG2012 where I posted this file, and all my calculators, but only a couple have joined the group yet. I will likely close it down after i create a MicroArmour website again.

Links are not permitted but it has been acceptable practice to name other companies.

There is an architectural model supplier I use called Microform Models. Do a Google search and you should find them. The scales are not exact, 1/240 and 1/300 are the closest ones but they have many items that will work.

With a bit of creativity you can re-purpose military vehicles to represent civilian vehicles.

Image
I've managed to create a fair collection of civilian vehicles over the years. While there are a few purpose-built civilian cars (from one of the UK micro scale tank vendors), most are military trucks that I have either simply painted in civilian colors, or have kit-bashed a bit.

For example in this picture there is a bulldozer made from a Russian artillery tractor, a police car and a taxi made from US jeeps, and a station-wagon made from a Russian BA-10 armored car, among others. (Oh yes, and a sky-blue bus made from a British command truck...)

For WW2 civilian vehicles the Soviet GAZ trucks are particularly useful. The GAZ-AA truck was a direct copy of the Ford Model A truck, which was fairly widely used in the 1920s/30s. But I typically paint up one truck in civilian colors from almost every set of military trucks I buy. That way, over time the collection grows, and there is a lot of variance.

However in WW2, particularly on the Eastern Front, there weren't a whole lot of civilian cars and trucks around. Most vehicles were agricultural tractors, and most transport was horse-wagons.

Image
I again use the Russian artillery tractor here as a farm tractor. The Stalinets tractor was, in fact, produced both for military and civilian agricultural use. Also, though not particularly clear in this pic, there is a horse-wagon behind a house on the right side.

Image
Here in a pic from another battle you can see the same wagon a little more clearly.

This is a single-horse farm wagon that I scratch-built. It was rather easily. I used a single horse, a small thin square of balsa for the base of the wagon, two turn-tables from British 25pdr cannons for the large pair of wheels, two thin rods (pulled molten styrene plastic) for the horse-harnesses, and a single seated figure (from the US Armored Infantry pack, I think). Plus a bit of miscellaneous scrap in the back to represent whatever the farmer might be carrying. I should probably have given the driver more colorful attire, but alas he is fairly old and not too colorful of a character at this point. He shows up often in my battles...

There is a british company that manufactures small detail accesories. Here is the link. All scales are 1/300.

SNIP! Time cast miniatures is the name.
You are welcome to mention other vendors by name if you choose, and you can discuss their products. But please do NOT post links to other companies' webstores in the GHQ Forums.

Thanks.
