French in Indochina

Post by Nepty »

I would like to wargame the French in Indochina. I have read that the Vietminh used Molotova trucks supplied by the Soviet Union. Does any one know what a Molotova truck looks like ?
I cant find any pictures. Does GHQ make a truck that looks like it ?

Try looking at GAZ 63 on the net. Unfortunately I did not see any GHQ trucks that models that.
My brother served from 69-70 and said there were alot of older soviet trucks as well.
Closest I saw in GHQ was the WW2 GAZ trucks.

The cab on GAZ-63 looks simular to the Studebaker. I guess I will use that. I have lots of them.

You have a good eye for spotting the familiarity. From a Russian GAZ 63 fan sight, via Babelfish translation, I have found this:
It is necessary to note that the version of truck GAZ-63 dated 1943 was of [osnashchen] cab and wings from the American truck Of studebaker US6, which was being supplied by the U.S. Government as the military aid during the years of the Second World War.
So yes, a Studebaker cab.

But the GHQ Studebaker 2 1/2t is a 4x6 truck, while the GAZ-63 2t was a 4x4.

Hmmmmm....

I would be more inclined to use the Chevrolet truck. Cab is pretty similar. Might want to try cutting down the "fence" around the headlights, but otherwise the overall configuration of the truck (4x4) looks much closer to my eye.

Just my $0.02 worth. Keep or discard at your discretion.
