DESERT PALM TREES
Man I just CANNOT make a decent looking desert palm tree from the terrain maker stuff. I have tried and tried following the directions in the catalog. It always comes out looking like a glob of glue on a stick or worse. At any rate I'm ashamed to put it on my board. I wish someone made finished trees to scale in a pack for sale. Preferably GHQ. Suggestions?

It's not GHQ but Microform Models, a company that makes architecture accessories, does palm trees. I dunno if the mods will allow the url so just google microform models. plenty of palm trees there.intruder523 wrote:Man I just CANNOT make a decent looking desert palm tree from the terrain maker stuff. I use the GHQ method almost to the letter, and kinda like the results I get.
I guess the only diffs are that I mount 'em on pennies rather than sticking them into terrain boards, and I use an angle-joint rather than a flat saw blade as my shield when I'm melting some of the chennil.
Otherwise pretty much just going by the book.

I've made them with chenille similar to the terrain maker method and they came out OK, but eBay has z scale plastic palm tress from Chinese manufacturers that are dirt cheap even with shipping. They look cheap but you can touch them up with acrylic paints for a more varied and realistic look. Search for z scale palm trees on eBay. I have purchased hundreds of trees from a seller named We Honest with great results.

Thanks guys
Thanks all...I'll check out some of those sites. Mk1, none of my attemts look anywhere as good as yours...good job ! I think my biggest problem is that I'm 65 yrs old now. I am disabled with heart problems and diabetes, my eyes aren't as sharp nor my hands as steady as they once were. I also wonder if I am using the wrong glue or something.
