Tarpaulins would have been provided in an accompanying color matching to Dunkelgrau Nr. 46. I am not sure as to how well they would have held their original dye(s) from their manufacturing, but it was order [ref. AHM Nr. 687, dated 7.11.1938, and AHM Nr.105, dated 7.2.1939] to paint tarpaulins to match the vehicle(s). i.e. camouflage colors such as Dunkelbraun Nr. 45.
For aesthetic reasons, I would recommend "not" painting the tarpaulins the exact color shade(s) as the vehicle. For one, a new issue tarp would not have been painted, and second, it being a different substrate [fabric as opposed to metal or wood] if/when it did get painted.
