QUESTION

Post by cehelgi »

Do you know if is it possible to buy only 1,2 or 3 minis ? or are they available only in packs of 5 ?
If so, what is the price for 1 mini ?
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Here on the web site, if you go to "military models", then "FAQ", you'll find some details on ordering spares.

I think it works out as $3.25 for a tank (hull plus turret) or SPG (hull+gun). Obviously if you order a single tank, since you live in France you will be paying a lot of postage for this on top. So best to add it to an order if you can. I would rather buy a pack as it is cheaper per vehicle and use the others as spares, or, sometimes I sell what I do not need, painted, at bring and buy sales but these are becoming quite rare now.

It's gone up. By the current "faq"-
Now $2.50 per hull and $1.50 per gun/turret, based on items that are 5 per pack.
By that, one assumes if it's one of many items that are packed fewer, it may be more.
Also, no parts on orders during sales...

Yes with their pricing structure it is pretty obvious that 'one offs' are not really how GHQ seems to want to sell their products.

I think most folks just buy by the pack and keep the extras as spares or sell or trade them to a local buddy.

Leif

Certainly understandable. In order to sell you one vehicle, they have to cast the mold once. This results in having a pack's worth of castings - say a pack of Pz IVs. Now they throw back in the pot the unneeded bits. So for the same cost as it takes to make a pack, they have made a single vehcile sale, though they did recover a small amount of metal.

Always remember, the amount of metal used is probably the smallest part of the cost - labor and overhead are the biggest costs.

Yah, I've given up on buying spare parts.
I fully understand their economics, but I understand mine too.
The real problem is with some items only available in mixed packs- and what you need is not the majority item...
Cehelgi-
Unless they give you a "deal", it's "official" enough; those numbers are right here on the GHQ website.

Thanks Kiasutha ! I just saw it in the FAQ :

"For most of the Micro Armour® vehicles (those that are sold 5 to a pack) spare hulls are $2.50 each, spare turrets/guns are $1.50 each"

I undestand why but it's too expensive, it's better to buy the complete pack !

They do not cast them in pack lots. They are cast with as many to the mold as is practical. To do otherwise means wasting time, space and power. What you are paying for is the time to pull a single item out of a tray and pack it especially for you (although all blisters are packed by hand anyway).
Frankly, given that GHQ haven't had a price rise in ages, maybe a decade, it doesn't surprise me that some things are changing... fewer bren carriers per pack, more expensive to buy individual bits (spare turrets from CinC are 50c the last I asked). It's a price to pay so GHQ can delay a general price rise. That will come, but I think overall they're doing a pretty good job delaying it. Or at least spreading it out.
There is no right or wrong, only decisions and consequences.
