ship basing suggestions

i am looking to base my shipson a metal stripe so they can be placed in a box using magnetic strips to hold them in place. do any of you members have any suggestions?

That is exactly what I do. Here's how:

1.) Assemble the bases. I prefer "standard" sizes for ship classes rather than custom fitting bases to each ship individually. My ships tend to be small so I leave room for a small label at the stern.

2.) Spray paint dark blue.

3.) Glue down your ships.

4.) Affix labels.

5.) Add wakes, textures, etc.

Now, in your box, don't use a full sheet of magnet. If you do it can be hard to pull them up, possibly damaging the model. Instead, use strips of magnet sheeting so ships hang over the edge a tad. Still plenty strong to hold them but it gives you an edge to get your nail under for ship removal.

My WW1 bases are all 1/2" wide (for my 1/6000 fleets). My old gaming group had some older members who had trouble seeing the smaller ships. So I also made "big" bases. I did this by using double width bases with larger labels. They had a label on one half, magnet on the other. So I could put a ship on the big base for the game, or not. Plus, when the ship turned away you could reverse it on the base so the label was always "right side up."

Another suggestion, if you glue some uncrumpled and flattened tin foil with some dry brushing you can add some easy and great looking "water" to your bases! The tin foil can be a pain to work with but the results are great! I Don't have any pictures right now unfortunately. Good luck!
