Putin is going to have a number of nice vehicles to use in the near future. The Armata is totally different from anything they have and it will be interesting to see how their crew adjust to it. That said, it does allow them to field more tanks within the division or have additional divisions active.

Here is an article from Jane's on the new Russian equipment debuted at the 2015 Victory day parade in Moscow: http://www.janes.com/article/51469/russ ... revolution.

Personally, I think the Armata will probably field the 152mm main gun if the other works. This will give the Russians their best chance of being able to penetrate an Abrams.

I don't like the unmanned turret of the Armata. In case the sensors get in trouble, the commander could only peek trought the right front of the vehicle. I also read that there is no fume extractor. Is there any space at all in that turret? i don't like over engineered solutions, because are prone to many break downs. Tanks are not like fighther planes, which are cared and maintained after returning from every mission. They must endure the most taxing combat and travel conditions. And finally, it seems to me an excessive wastage of technology, considering the traditional tactical approach of the russian of throwing armour-heavy units in most of the combat situations faced so far.

The other vehicles on the other hand are more interesting, they seem to guarantee a good degree of survivability of their troops and crews.

Just my two cents.

Military vehicles are beautiful because they are built from functional designs which make them real, solid, without artifice. The short timers

I think the Armata has a long period of workouts that need to be done before mass production begins. The issue of sight should the sensors go out, and they will when artillery is being used, will be a large problem for the Russians. I expect there must be some backup systems that have not been shown. Otherwise, one would have to think backups will be added at a later date. The concept is pretty good but the reality of a man less turret is hard to believe and very hard for the Russians.

I was reading up on the new Tank and APC. Looks like it is replacing the T-72 and the BMP-2. The T-14 will only have a 125 mm smoothbore
So the T-80/T-90 and BMP-3 are even better and don't need upgraded?

Stryker - Is the optics better than the Armada? I think that might be the difference between the T-80/T-90 tanks. Fewer crew might be a result of a population reduction or even wanting more vehicles in a division.

what about new ammunitions for the 125mm? This will justify the 125mm on the T-14 as well as increasing the performance of the existing tanks if the new ammunitions will be compatible.

Russia’s next-generation Armata tank had the option of being developed into a remote-controlled combat vehicle from its very inception,

Remote turrets an old design idea

The new Armata reminds me of the winner of an old Armor magazine tank design contest from 1993.

while the tank design contest did not really represent something new, it was done in 1992, which pre-dates the CV90105 and similar tanks from this millenia.
