Hello
I have done these in the past but its been a while, getting back into mounting magnets on turrets. My question is What type of drill works best when drilling thru turrets? I forget what I use to use. It seems like the bits I have now just don't cut it thru the material as easily as I recall?
Also what methods do you all use to hold the turrets when drilling into them? I hold them by hand or lay them on a mat, but some times its a close call with hitting my fingers.
Thanks

Not sure how you attach the magnet to the turret, but I never drilled them I think. I snap off the bit that goes into the hull and just glue a magnet to the turret. Though, I always sanded the magnets and cleaned them before glueing. Maybe 1 out of 10 came off when testing the strenght, but I simple glued them again.
Usually I had to drill a bigger hole into the hull, but that is much easier. I prefer a manual drill instead of a Dremel for that. A sharp HSS drill bit goes through the soft metal like butter.

If you check out my blog I show how I do mine. I haven't been active on the blog lately because of a move back to the states but there is an older post about it. In a nut shell snip off the turret peg, I use a dremmel drill bit slightly larger than the magnet but mounted in the pin vise. I drill by hand holding the turret. I only drill a small recess then glue in the magnet which acts as the new turret peg.
