Looking for 10mm Civil War rule set

Post by Alpha 11 »

First, if this is the wrong place to put, this sorry. I had put this question here a little while ago, and forgot to come back to see if anyone had answered. Now can't find my question, so I'll try it again. Looking to get into 10 mm Civil War battles using the GHQ minis, but first need a good rule set to play them with. Any suggestions?

I use Regimental Fire and Fury - an old standard, but there's a reason for that. They are not designed for 10mm (or any other scale in particular) - as with many other games which use bases, you can improve the look of the thing enormously by using the same base sizes, but putting more, smaller troops on each. Or if space is limited, use smaller bases, reduced ranges/moves, and a smaller table.

Rules are scale agnostic whether they say so or not. Any rule set will work with 10mm. So...what kind of game are you looking for? Where you command an entire army and ground scale is 1" = 150 yards? Or where you command a division and 1"=25 yards?

Bloody Big Battles handles the former and I really like Guns of Gettysburg for the latter.

I strongly endorse the GHQ rules set. They are straight-forward and seem to produce reasonably historic results.

First, thanks for the answers. I must be blind and stupid because I missed their rule book. Can you play with more then division level with GHQ rules? And is there any video of game play?

Thanks for asking this question Alpha 11. I am just getting into 10mm ACW and didn't know GHQ had an ACW rules set either and I'll be getting those for sure. I'm really liking the 10mm ACW from GHQ with great detail for their size and I like the poses. Nice change from my 28mm ACW project!

Any answers on Alpha 11's question about division size? I'm following the thread to see if I might want to switch from 15mm to 10mm for my ACW.
