Another field. This one could not be easier. The base is a piece of cloth that I stiffened up a bit and the glued down crops and a border. What could be easier?
I just cut a shape from a bolt of speckled tan cloth (you can see a close up in the second photo) that I had. To stiffen it up just a bit I gave the back side a heavy spray of cheap hairspray. Not the "leaves you looking natural" kind, but the pile-it-high helmet head kind. $0.99 at the dollar store last year. I let that get good and dry. Total time: 2 minutes.
Once it was dry, I put down parallel lines of white glue. Then I sprinkled this with Woodland Scenics fine turf, piling it on to cover the field completely. I gave it a gentle tamp down - not too hard - and left it to dry for half an hour. Over newspaper I tapped off the excess turf. I took it outside and blew off all the loose excess. Total time: 4 minutes.
Finally, I put down a heavy bead of tacky glue (it stays a bit flexible when dry) and pressed in clump foliage. Remember to leave a gap where the farmer gets in and out! These clumps came from a tree kit that contains 3 colors of foliage: a medium olive, a light green and a dark forest green. Total time: 5 minutes.
Okay, so really it took me 11 minutes not counting drying time. Next time I'll leave less space around the edges.
