Flames of AwesomeSauce

Post by Extra Crispy »

For a few years now I have been playing my own "house" version of Flames of War. I used to call it Flames of Epic, but gamers thought it was a WW2 version of Epic Armageddon, the SciFi rules from GW. So I have renamed it, and finally got it down on paper. It is now available for download from my DeepFriedHappyMice hobby web site. It was designed for my armies in 1/285 but is obviously scale independent.

There are two files to download: a set of house rules, and a QRS.

The Rules
I tried to be somewhat detailed in my rules so they run 13 pages. But most of it is really just comprised of three things: an Opportunity Fire / Overwatch rule, an optional hidden movement rule, and a two phase, fog-of-war turn sequence.

The QRS
I used to make "Unit Cards" for my FoW games, like BF now does with their Team Yankee game. It was a small improvement over having to look things up in the rule book, but there were still cards and sheets all over. So I have instead combined the QRS with a unit roster. The stats for each unit are grouped with the appropriate rules section. So movement rates are in the movement section, shooting stats are in the shooting section, and so on. So you will need to take a few minutes to fill it out prior to play, but I think you'll find it really helps speed up play. The small blue cirlces with white numbers are page numbers. they refer to the 3rd edition, small paperback book which is the rules set I use.

DON'T PANIC
The QRS is four pages. The FoW original was two. But I have added the unit stats and printed it in much larger type, much easier to read for my old eyes.

I'm sure I have missed some things, or will need to explain a few things better, but I think you'll find it's very much a different, more dynamic game with this structure.

You can find the download by searching for (yes, really) deep fried happy mice.

I checked it out online, looks cool. Im a big fan of hidden movement. I will have to explore FoW as I haven't played those rules yet. Thanks for sharing.

Mark,
Great looking terrain, especially the fields. Extremely nice.
Did you make them? If so, what did you do, what steps and material did you use?
Excellent.

Here is a direct link to the rules downloads:

Some of the fields I bought, some I made. If you click the link above, check the How To section and look for the videos. I do short tutorials on making fields there.
