Gulf War Info Needed
Was interested in doing a Gulf War battle. But instead coming from the Gulf and hitting the beach.
Where can I get some info on what the Iraq army had waiting and things prepared for a beach assault?

Depends. Gulf War 1 the Iraqis were not 100% expecting a USMC Push; and were taken aback when they actually did get hit with an amphibious flanking strike. If I recall that was during the battle for Khaji ( ? ) in Kuwait where that happened. Defemces were basic infantry; a few fixed guns and some tanks in hulldown positions. The Iraqis pretty much legged it their; but put up much stuffer resistance in Kuwait City proper.
Most of your units would be infantry, AA guns up to and including 57mm; some towed arty up to about 152mm and a few mobile AA and some tanks like T-55s or maybe *literally* one or two T-72 types. May be the odd Chinese style APC or Russian made BMP-1 or BTR-60 in the mix.

Chatto,
I may be incorrect in my recollection of the first gulf war, but I thought it was believed that the Iraqis were expecting an amphibious assault in Kuwait. This was a result of the US deploying of a sizable and very visible assault force off the cost. this mislead the Iraqis to deploy a sizable force in an attempt to defend against the inevitable assault that they thought would eventually come. The allies fostered this deception through the use of coastal bombardment by the USS Missouri and USS Wisconsin. This feint, also included small unit beach assaults to keep the Iraq army from realizing the real attack would come through Kuwait's southern boarder with Saudi Arabia. However, I do not believe any large or significant forces actually performed a beach assault.
Just what I remember from my research into the subject. I am getting older, so I don't always trust my memory.. LOL

As I recall, the naval assault ended up being a feint. There was battleship targeting and firing on the Iraqis, as well as aircraft missions. It held the Iraqis in place, and then the left hook that Schwarzkopf employed with the XVII Corps under Gen Franks.
The USMC was sitting on ships off the coast. IMHO, it could have been a difficult landing if the Iraqis morale held up if there was a naval assault. Men's bodies do not hold up well against 7.62 - 57mm rounds.....
Could also do battle of Khafji might be a good battle ot try or a similar type scenario. Can use armored cars, tanks, APCs, AIFVs, etc.
.
Also look for Osprey books, believe that they had 3 books in the series.

You can download a copy of the GDW Gulf War book from Scribd. Not sure if I should put the link in here but it is easy enough to find.

Amphib ops starts on pg 212, although I don't know if the link is good due to the ghq censor. What is sensored is the word a n a l y s i s if you need to paste into a separate page.

Ah, fair enough, I may have mistaken things
I thought that when the USMC did do some landings they eventually hit relatively few problems? I may have mixed up how prepared they were and forgotten that by the time the few landings did occur the Iraqis were already bein pulverised from the Battleships and from the air.

Hey Chatto,
The Marines never actually performed any landings. Ground forces drove in from Southern Kuwait along with the other Arab countries. Videos of landings were practice landing used to convince Saddam that a real invasion was to take place. Military planners knew the Iraqis would be well prepared for an invasion so the 'left hook' plan was hatched.
