This morning was the grand air battle! At exactly 0700 hours, pilots and support crews reported to their respective hangars – most wearing pants – where they received orders assigning them to a fighter wing. The squadrons then all took off and headed to their new temporary airfields where they were assigned a target.

Dragon Wing (Red Air Field)
-ROD 2nd Ftr Sqn, F-4E, Fighter Role
-BSDF 7 Squadron, JAS-39C, Fighter Role
-Chrisdom Squadron 73, F/A-18C, Fighter Role
-Chaikovia Squadron, F-35A, Attack Role
-Yer Bouti 31st TFS, F-5E, Attack Role

Mission: Attack Green Air Field to destroy ground targets and enemy aircraft.

Ogre Wing (Green Air Field)
-Yer Bouti 41st TFS, F-4E, Fighter Role
-BSDF 21 Squadron, JAS-39C, Fighter Role
-Chaikovia Squadron, F/A-18C, Fighter Role
-ROD 12th Ftr Sqn, F-16C, Attack Role
-Chrisdom Squadron 8, A-4/F-35C, Attack Role

Mission: Attack Red Air Field to destroy ground targets and enemy aircraft.

Attack aircraft were loaded with live ordnance and both fighter wings took off near simultaneously at 10:00 local time. It did not take long for the two opposing forces to locate each other and mix it up, using all of the skill and training that they had to get in position for a kill. The opposing F-4E Squadrons swirled about one another in a frenzied dogfight while the JAS-39C squadrons went after the attack aircraft, trying to intercept them before they had an opportunity to drop their bombs on the airfield targets.

The opposing F/A-18C squadrons also met each other, but at a very low altitude, their running battle taking them out over the Pacific Ocean where they dove to wave-top level, much to the delight of the dignitaries and spectators on the coast. The battle ebbed and flowed for nearly 30 minutes with both sides vying for advantage. Then the pilots of Chrisdom’s Squadron 73 made some impressive maneuvers, shooting down several Chaikovia fighter aircraft over the sea.

With the aerial combat shifting to Dragon Wing’s favor, the Chrisdom F/A-18Cs cleared the way for their attack squadrons, allowing the Chaikovia F-35s to engage the airfield targets, destroying 8 of them in rapid succession.

Ogre Wing’s fighters were able to mount a late comeback with BSDF’s 21 Squadron gaining local air superiority just long enough for the Ogre attack squadrons to make a single pass over the enemy airfield, destroying 3 targets.

With Dragon Wing the clear winner, and all aircraft running low on fuel, the squadrons all returned to their original hangars at Vulture Field for a debrief and after action review. Then off to the awards ceremony and barbecue!

And don't forget - tomorrow is the farewell/St Patrick's Day barbecue, concert, and air show!

As another successful fighter meet comes to an end we can all sit back and enjoy the airshow with an "Avtur beer"
A big thanks to redleg.

Fly by from the BSDF.

Well I blew it late last night! Midnight painting session did not go as planned.
YUUUKKKK..

I had used a Vallejo surface primer (acrylic-polyurethane).
Think this may have been left in the garage so a bit of time at well below freezing.
Six aircraft now soaking in the paint remover.

Anyway I did not have the colours I really wanted so will post at the next fighter meet (over Yer Bouti)

Thanks to everyone who attended the 2018 Fighter Rodeo! We hope all attendees had as much fun and learned as much as we did here in the ROD! It seems that all of the event were a great success, as well as the St Patrick's Day barbecue / concert / air show! Smegma Bomb put on an amazing show and the imported goat was barbecued to perfection...and it washed down beautifully with some Avtur beer!

A special treat for all was the heritage flight of BSDF JAS-39s flying side-by-side with ROD P-40s from the famed Spotted Tails squadron of WW2.

We wish everyone a safe journey as they head for home. Our only request is that whoever removed every single stop sign on the air base please return them before they depart.

Thanks again to the Balzac Self Defense Force, Commonwealth of Crisdom, Yer Bouti Air Force, and Chaikovia for making the long trip out here for this event!

I heard there was a new reflective dance floor at the disco dance hall, Nickels Alley. People seem the like the metallic sound while dancing and the light reflection.

The ROD will be hosting the annual fighter rodeo again this year! It is tradition to hold this event during the week of Saint Patrick's Day. But since Saint Patrick's Day is on a Sunday this year, the actual fighter rodeo will be the week prior and the event will culminate with the Saint Patrick's Day party / barbecue / concert on March 17th.

That's less than 50 days. Get ready!

The CoC Navy is planning to send a team, the CoC Air Force is too.
Balzac Republic is planning to send a team of Grippins.
Armeniadom is planning to send 6 A-4 and 6 F-4 Phantoms.
Tripolidom is planning to send 14 F/A-18 C
Moroccodom is planning to send A-6 in the attack role and F-8 in the fighter role.
We will need to firm up the air groups.
.
What will the competitions be this year? We will send all different pilots.

The competition will be the same, the only difference being in the scenario for the final grand air war. We still haven't decided on that event though. We will post a new thread in a few weeks with all of the details for the 2019 Fighter Rodeo, but we'r still planning on 2 squadrons from each nation that wants to participate: one fighter squadron and one attack squadron.

Sheik Yer Bouti has given approval for the Air Force to attend this years ROD fighter meet.
There had been speculation that Yer Bouti would not send a team due to the regional instability and rumors of low aircraft serviceability at home.
However in a show of might Yer Bouti will not only attend the Rodeo in ROD but also conduct a large scale air defence exercise in central YB at the same time.

The two squadrons to be sent.
The 41st TFS "Eagles" will return with their F4 Phantoms as fighters.
The 43rd TFS "Tigers" flying F5's will be the attack Sqn.

We're very glad that Yer Bouti will be attending the fighter rodeo again this year! And your F-4 Phantoms are always welcome...we have a special love for these venerable aircraft!

We will be posting a new thread for the 2019 Fighter Rodeo in the next few weeks!

Canada will be invited to attend, as are all imagi-nations. Details will be on the 2019 thread.
