Uparmored FMTV

Post by shawno »

Anyone utilized the armored cab and chassis from HIMARS to make uparmored FMTV? I think I know one person that has, but I'd like to put it out there to the greater community.

Any experiences? Tips? Pictures?

Thanks!

Those are very nicely done, Chris. Did you have to do anything special to make it fit together?

As I recall, nothing except fit. Don’t recall any shaving.
Here is another with a different m.g. bucket.

Thanks for the reply. Great photos.

I might try some like yours or a version with an open cargo bed, hard shelter etc. I'll have to pick up a pack of HIMARS sometime to mess around with.

chrisswim,

Do the armor cabs come as a separate from the frame, like the unarmored FMTVs? And to be clear, if they do come separate, they just glue right on to the unarmed FMTVs with no problem?

Might want to just order some cabs and glue them to some FMTV soft skin covered trucks.

Hoth,
I use the Himars frame and cab, I glue the Mk23 armored box on the back, put on m.g. bucket, then paint.
I use the Himars launchers on FMTV 5-ton chassis for an unarmored Himars.

Chrisswim,

Does that mean the armored cab, from the HIMARS, is a separate piece or attached to the chassis?

The Himars has the chassis/wheel frame, then the CAB, then a piece to elevate the rocket launcher and the the rocket launcher. So 4 pieces.
.
When I kit-bash I glue the armored cab on the frame, then add the armored box from the Mk.23 and then I add a m.g. bucket.

I use the hull/chassis of the armored FMTV/Himars with the armored Cab.
I have not put the armored cab on the UN-armored hull/chassis. I use the un-armored cab and chassis as unarmored cab with Himars, flatbed with styrene, or as a tractor.
