According to my mom, anybody over 65 can say whatever they want, however they want. And you DON'T have to be polite. Good for him. Knocking off the enemy is why you go to war. After you win, you can afford to be nicer about it.
All blessings flow from a good mission statement.

Redleg,
When you were in The City, did you go out to Lands End & look at the bridge of the U.S.S. San Francisco. It still had the shell holes from the ** CENSORED ** battle When they met the Kongo class BC. Its been years since I was out there, but I assume it's still there.
Nashorn88's comment reminded me of Franciscan Hobbies; I'd forgotten about it. I used to go there, as long ago as the late 1940s with my father, when Gunther ran it. Eventually it moved from the south side of Ocean Ave. across the street to the north side. Somewhere along the line, Gunther retired and his son(s?) took over. It was a great place, but changing interests forced them to shut down sometime (probably) in the 2000s. I was still going there to buy brushes and paints 'til the end.
I don't remember the Shelton store on Geary Ave., though, although there was a store on Geary around 22nd 23rd Ave. where I used to go to when the Star Fleet Battles game and (especially) miniatures first came out. Was that it?

Nashorn,
Game Master! I remember that now. Don't remember the French restaurant (Jacques en ze box) though, although I love fast food. Probably didn't pass it up when I went that way, unless I spent all my money at Game Master.
I never played the Star Fleet Battles game, although for years I brought everything the company put out, because I didn't know anybody else interested in the game. Still have a box full of their books around the apt., along with Sees boxes full of UFP, Klingon, Tholian, etc. star ships. (For you poor, benighted auslanders, Sees Candy Co. makes the best candy in the world, & their 1-lb. & 2-lb. boxes are perfect for storing paints, star ships, etc.) When I looked them up last year out of curiosity, it looked like they were still in business.
Redleg,
If you're not familiar with The City, Lands End is at the outer end of Geary St., If you're heading west, it's a right turn from Geary St. to a road that goes there. You should probably check to make sure it's still there, & that I remember the directions correctly. Even if the bridge isn't (which I can"t imagine) there's still a great view of G.G. Straits & the Marin headlands.
I've been to the Hornet a few times recently; on two occasions our SMSC group put some miniature ships on display. Some interesting stuff on display in the hanger. I think there are some tours that go into the ship or up to the bridge, although I don't remember any details.
