Just about to start doing a batch of new infantry and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for colour(s) for infantry in multicam?
Do you just use one colour or do you try to paint in some of the camo flecks?
-------
FWIW - i had a go at finding average RGB values for various patterns and an approximate vallejo colour - edited - results below.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks

So I averaged out the patterns and then tried to find suitable Vallejo colours to match.
- Multicam/MTP seems like a reasonable match for yellow green
- MARPAT isn't a great match on anything, - its almost half way between olive green and yellow green.
- Flecktarn isn't particularly satisfactory as it comes out close to yellow green, but that really ignores the wide variety of colours
- Cadpat is reasonable on US uniform green
- US woodland seems reasonably close to khaki grey but that seems to underplay the green elements.
- UK Woodland DPM - there was nothing close - I'd probably go for us uniform as its more of a green camo than a tan
- Desert DPM and US Choc-chip - nothing close - maybe brown rose with white. Or just go for light sand or generic tan.

Interesting results. One thing I'd add is that according to the DEVELOPMENT OF THE U.S. WOODLAND BATTLE DRESS UNIFORM report, at long range the colors of the Woodland camouflage were supposed to blend into a color more or less matching the OG-107 uniform of the Vietnam era. If one were purely doing scale modeling it might make sense to paint your US infantry with just that color. On the other hand, since most of us here are probably using our miniatures as wargaming tokens, adding at least an impressionistic effort at the camo pattern in order to distinguish one force from another makes a lot of sense.
Personally, when I make my first attempt at US Woodland, I think I'm going to take a base coat of USA Uniform or Luftwaffe Camo Green ( 70.823, is this the same as yours below?) and adding splotches of the same paint color, lightened and darkened. I'll post my results when I get to it. No one hold their breath, I've got a bunch of East & West Germans as well as Soviets to do first.
