Hi Folks,
I am trying to figure out more about the six different Japanese destroyers and why they have so many.
Can someone tell me about each of these? Which are better for what purposes? Which are more potent than others? And why there are so many. These all seem to have been laid out 1990 or later.
* Kongo Class
* Murasame Class
* Takanami Class
* Abukuma Class
* Asagiri Class
* Akizuki Class
Thanks!

Re: Questions re: Japanese Navy
- Kongos are Anti-aircraft Aegis destroyers
- Murasames are general purpose escorts
- Takanamis are the follow-on generation to Murasames with more Mk.41 VLS
- Abukumas are more equivalent to lighter general purpose frigates or corvettes and tend to be in separate squadrons to operate in specific coastal regions near the major bases.
- Asagiris are older general purpose destroyers, pre-dating the Murasames.
- Akizukis are modified Takanamis with enhanced ASW capability.
