Neat Trick for making Inks from Washes

I find those GW washes, like delvan or nuln, to be very useful for large miniatures but less so for tiny ones. The coarse surface of the paints collect the wash and the surfaces are discolored.

I started using liquitex flow improver with GW and Army Painter washes and the ink finally flows in the recesses without discoloring surfaces as much.

I use a ratio of about 9:2:1 of flow improver to water to wash. Note that the water has to be really clean, like distilled water. I found that our tap water was not clean enough. It makes me wonder what I have been drinking.

Anyway, I thought I'd share this with people trying to bring out details in the 1/2400 ships and 1/285 vehicles. It was a big breakthrough for me. I hope it helps you guys.

One more trick is to not use black. Make that ink out of a mix of the base color and off-black.
