Latest micro batch. Two Eurofighter Typhoons in late WWII RAF fighter scheme and the the third (and final) four aircraft flight of P-51D Mustangs.

The Eurofighters are by H&R and the Mustangs are by Raiden; Decals by Dom's Decals and I-94; PAints by Humbrol, Vallejo, Games Workshop, and Army Painter.

It's been quite a while since I last posted, so here we go.

As I'd painted the trucks for my two Soviet SMG Battalions as different times they didn't look as similar to each other as I'd like. I had a few spare GAZ AAAs and other assorted Soviet transport that I decided to paint up. These ended up looking like one of the previously painted battalions. It all boiled down to the fact that 'all' I had to do to the second battalion was to give it a wash and a couple of dry brushes. Well and paint the tilts a different colour.

I don't actually have a photo at hand of all the trucks in their current scheme but this is a photo of some of them compared to the 'spare' trucks. The spares are in the middle whilst the trucks to the left are the ones that didn't get repainted and the ones to the right are those that got the revamp.



C-in-C ZIS 6s
Whilst sorting out my Russian softskins, I discovered that the trucks (YaG-12) I'd been using to transport the support elements (mainly Maxim MGs) didn't actually enter service with only one prototype being built in the '30s. Fortunately I had some C-in-C ZIS-6s that I'd acquired in a job lot of microarmor that I'd bought from a guy selling up. I decided to use these at - at least for the meantime.


Soviet M3 Halftracks
The organisations I've got for late war heavy tank / assault gun brigades call for 19 halftracks. One in the brigade HQ and nine each in two SMG companies. For wargaming purposes, I decided to give each of the SMG companies 10 each - so that each infantry squad had it's own transport vehicle. It would have been a PITA to divide up the tenth squad between the nine vehicles. Let's just assume that they 'acquired' two more halftracks.


I'm going to have to do something about the last 10 (or so) halftracks. I was running out of matt varnish and was using the dregs in the bottom of the tin. It obviously had too much of the matting agent as it's dried opaque in places.

On to the Soviets.

The tanks of the two T-34/85 Brigades have, finally, been given a coat of matt varnish.


The boxes for the second brigade have been marked along with a new box to hold the ZSU-37 optional (instead of the M17s) platoons. I included space for a third platoon just in case I get the Tank Corps' third brigade at some point.
