The first day of the Tanker’s Ball was a smashing success! All 130 tanks hit the ranges, either shooting or driving, and showing why they were selected to compete!
The Dragoon Regiment was on the gunnery range today, firing at stationary and moving targets with both main gun and machine gun. None of the Dragoon companies had a perfect score, which leaves the door open for the Hussar Regiment to take the lead when they conduct gunnery tomorrow. Several tanks did have perfect scores, however, and the tankers from Moroccodom performed exceptionally well!
The Hussar Regiment negotiated the driving course today and the ROD’s Team Spearhead had a perfect company score (home field advantage?) The 7 Dragoon companies will have a turn at the course tomorrow though – will the ROD’s performance be enough to take home the company trophy? The takers from Romaniadom and Karmanaskis also had some very highly skilled drivers – particularly when driving in full chemical protective posture.
Tomorrow morning the events switch – the Dragoon Regiment will take a crack at the driving course, and the Hussar Regiment will hit the live fire range for the gunnery competition!
The tankers get a chance to unwind tonight and do some maintenance on their tanks. One note, however: the event organizers request that the tankers stop making obscene shapes in the dirt with their tanks as they wait for their turn at the range. The giant dirt penis in the grass near range #7 was broadcast on live TV and several complaints were received from North America.

KDF 4th Coy, 1st Bn hit the ranges.

This is the first foreign deployment of a KDF ready reserve unit of former conscripts so the ROD range team is understandably unsure of the level of training.
As it happens this unit has been on the reserve for six years so including their conscript time they have all been playing with tanks for some seven years now.
They all originally trained together and then became the 4th Coy as their wartime unit. Mandatory refresher training takes place several times a year and they retrained on the KN-2 last year.
Most ready reserve units are active for ten years.

This morning the Dragoon Regiment reported to the driving course and the crews each took their turn negotiating the course that passed through rough terrain and urban landscapes. The CoC team performed very well, but in the end the ROD team held on to win the company plaque.
Meanwhile the Hussar Regiment was on the range all day, blasting away at the targets with main gun and machine gun fire. The Monacodom tankers continued to dominate that event despite some great shooting by most of the crews.
The winners of the gunnery and driving events were announced at the end of the day:

KDF B Sqn support get some last minute training in.
The ARRV Centurions were pressed into service when it became clear the old VT-55 had trouble with the weight of the new KN-2 MBT.
New KN-2 based ARRV are in the future but probably not until the first 120 KN-2 tanks are in service due to cost.
An updated power pack and new radio fit will keep the old cents going for now.
Tech support is normally on tracks in the armoured units but since the ROD requested wheeled support other than the ARV, they came along in a Unimog borrowed from the Bn. Logistics uses Man trucks seen here loading up with a skid of beer they found unattended at the 4th Tank Company (after dark).

Day 3 is in the books for the Tanker’s Ball! Great performance by all crews again today. The Hussar Regiment went through the challenging Tank Biathlon course this morning, driving and shooting through the MPRC. There were several perfect scores, but Karmanaskis B Squadron / Dragoon Regiment had three tanks with that honor. Tomorrow the Dragoon Regiment hits the biathlon course and then the crew trophy and company plaques will be awarded for that event!
The support teams were put to the test today as well with the challenging maintenance competition. Swapping out a tank power pack and tracks isn’t an easy job, and then we threw a simulated chemical attack in for good measure. After all companies completed the event the maintenance team for the CoC B Company / 1st Brigade / 1st Armor Division was declared the winner!
All of the companies hit the maneuver ranges in the afternoon to compete in round 1 of Capture the Hill. The companies went head-to-head twice, fighting over a piece of terrain using MILES engagement equipment to determine kills. Five companies were eliminated after two battles. Crews love the new KN-2's. The high power to weight ratio was a requirement of the mountainous terrain back in Karmanaskis, a big bonus on the flat.
The drivers are taking full credit for the fast times but the computer controlled advanced suspension system is a major factor. It has an advanced track system called Dynamic Track Tensioning System. Maintaining optimum tension through all maneuvers, it dramatically reduces the chance of throwing a track even in the most extreme situations.
Big party tonight, not sure 22 Bravo can cover the tab!!!
