Wow, been a minute for an AAR! This was based on an action that occurred on November 4, 1944 to the east of Pest in the village of Felsohalom. In this case the Soviet 4th Guards Mech Brig had taken the high ground and was holding it with 4 76mm ATGs, an infantry company (7 sections), 2 Maxim MMGs, and a pair of ATRs. They were not dug in but were able to use terrain to conceal themselves. Reinforcements consisting of a T34/85 plat and a pla of SMG armed tank riders were expected. The Russians could be deployed up to the edge of the village and down to the RR track. The village and center of the table is higher than the ground to the left. Axis had a company of Hungarian infantry, 5 Zrinyi assault guns, a Turan II and a Nimrod. Also a grenadier platoon from the Feldherrnhalle with 2 MMG teams Unfortunately we had to pack up before the Russian reinforcements arrived. 6mm minis and I Ain't Been Shot Mum rules played at GigaBites Cafe in Marietta GA
The idea for this scenario came from the massive Armoured Warfare in the Battle for Budapest book by Norbert Szamveber The pattern in this campaign seems to be a Soviet attack takes a position The Axis counterattack and retake the position. Then the Axis must usually retreat to keep their flanks secure or a lack of reserves prevents them from holding the ground.

That is another great looking and very interesting game, Mark! I always enjoy seeing your AARs. The games always look to be well researched and challenging for both sides. And then there is the eye candy aspect which always draws me it as well.

May, 1944
Russian attack on a panzergrenadier held town.

Can the panzergrenadiers hold on until the Germans panzers arrive?

Great looking game, Polish GI! So... did the Panzers arrive on time? It looks like a good game.

My original idea for my 1943 game set in Russia was for the "Fire Brigade" to come on as reinforcements for the Germans. But due to time and the number of players that I had, I determined to scrap the reinforcements for both sides to make the game manageable in the amount of time.

One of these days, I may do a solo game at home with some Tigers, Panthers, and maybe some Ferdinands/Elephants to see how things go.

Panzers arrived a tad late. And the grenadiers did all they could to hold the town. Arguably, there were still remnants of a company in the north beginning to fall back. There was also a platoon of pioneers present.

Reinforcements can get tricky with games and schedules. Tigers and Panthers are fun for sure. The 75L70 of the Panther is a good gun. On par with the 88L56 or maybe a tad better.
Internally, I am working on putting something together for the Elefants/Brummbars north of Ponyri. (e.g. AT ditches, barbed wire, minefields etc) Elefants are fun, if you see it, you can eliminate it. Lol

Thanks redleg. It was fun getting back into the swing of things. There are a couple of areas I want to brush up on again to speed up the process. Get past the look up chart process if you will.

Already eye balling the next scenario. I promised myself I would be more busy with gaming this year.

Just played a small winter East Front game using I Ain't Been Shot Mum rules with lend lease and light tanks This scenario is based upon the Dec 2, 1941 Soviet counterattack on the leading edge of the German drive towards Moscow. The German 258 Inf Div had punched through the Russian 222 Rifle Div and was only 27 miles west of the capital.. At this point, with the weather down to -30C, the Russians launched an attack at the point of the German spear, Meanwhile tanks of the 136th and 140th Tk Bttns came in from the Southeast to cut off the Germans. This is the basis of this game.

Mouthed, good looking, ugly winter terrain.
You do capture the bleakness of winter combat.
Nice set up.
