Impressive work on the buildings! I like your hedges and the roads -- how did you make them or where did you get them? What rules do you use? Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. The roads are from Total Battle Miniatures ( I bought the unpainted ones and painted them myself ). Hedges are just icecream sticks with Woodland Scenics flocking glued to them. I plan on making walls in the same way with more icecream sticks sliced length ways and glued on and then painted suitable shades of brown and grey. We use Flames of War rules which are designed for 15mm miniatures. All dimensions are kept the same for GHQ's 6mm minis except command distances which are halved which seems to work very well. A 6 x 4 table gives lots of maneuvering room amongst GHQ's free download buildings. I still have a lot of work on the buildings to get sceniced bases on each and want to replace the 15mm trees for smaller GHQ ones eventually.

Bill,

That's absolutely astounding. What did you use for the corn?

Corn

I have a mix there of Battlefield Terrain Concepts 10-15mm Corn and some home made out of Christmas Wreath cut down with wire cutters and mounted on balsa or bass wood bases.

Bill, Awesome work! Your Devil's Den is perfect (I visit Gettysburg annually to walk the battlefields) and your figures are outstanding! I've looked at BTC's cornfields at the East Cons and may have to take the plunge. Thanks for sharing.

Devil's Den

Post by ACWBill »

Thank you all for the kinds words. @Bez, I reenacted for 20+ years but gave it up in the late 90s when I relocated to So. Florida. That Devil's Den piece is a 10mm resin casting I bought commercially. It is fine looking piece.

I'm starting a 6mm Vietnam project (and I blame you Pibber), so I thought I better find out if my idea for jungle terrain is viable.

Here is a little "proof of concept":

I intend to order a sh*tload of trees (palm and leafy) from one of those Hong Kong eBay shops. But I remembered I had these trees lying around from an earlier 20mm project, where I used these palm trees with the stems cut off as ferns.

Combined with loads of other stuff I had lying around, I made this little piece. I quite like it, even though I have to think about placement a bit better next time, so it will actually fit models in more than one place.

For the next try-out, I want to add:
- vines made from that green garden metal wire
- bamboo patches from cocktail sticks
- more tufts as ferns or jungle plants
