The Tanker’s Ball climaxed today with the final competitions! (though not the final event) In the morning the four finalist tank companies took to the field for the last round of the Capture the Hill competition. Each company had 3 engagements: one against each of the other finalist companies. After a long hard morning a winner was declared: The King of the Hill is B Company / 1st Monacodom from the CoC!

The afternoon was spent in the maneuver area for the Feeding Frenzy event. All 100 tanks were turned loose to fight to the last tank. The tanks were equipped with MILES equipment that were programmed to deactivate the tank after the third hit. Some companies agreed to cooperate at first, but with a massive trophy on the line, the tanks soon had to fend for themselves. In the end only one tank was left alive, and that crew has been immortalized as the top tank crew of 2024. Congratulations to tank number 6 from the ROD’s A Company / 2-70 Armor!

Tonight is the formal event – the actual Tanker’s Ball! Don’t be late, and don’t get too crazy because the last event is tomorrow morning – the massive tank battle!

Congratulations to those that competed, that worked, prepared and learned, of course to those that have a trophy!
Do let Sgt Winters, tank 6, A Co, 2-70 Armored. Phenomenal tanker. He is at another level in skill, intuition of armor. Look forward to celebrating with him.
We were unable to retrieve one Pershing from the mud pit. Only the end of the gun barrel is showing. The 4 cables are still attached to the M26. I am sure that the interior is full of it, mud everywhere in the M26. New type of armored warfare … sub-terra combat in a sub-tank. LOL. Well, not funny at all. Really!
The CoC would like TF 5-24C to visit Karmanaskis. We would like to visit, some tourist activities and perhaps some joint training. That may help to keep the world just a bit more secure.

It’s the last day of the 2024 Tanker’s Ball, and things are starting to wind down. Last night’s ball was generally considered to be a success. There was some criticism of the venue – the post gym – but predictably, some food was thrown, and a general mess ensued, so in the end cleaning the gym floor was much easier than cleaning a banquet hall.

This morning all of the tank companies took to the maneuver area for a massive tank battle. Dragoon Regiment versus Hussar Regiment. 50 tanks against 50 tanks. There were nominal objectives, perhaps some flags somewhere, but the tankers were more focused on destruction! The 2 regiments went head-to-head, trying to out-maneuver and out-shoot each other. The action was spectacular, with the world’s best tank crews maneuvering as companies and platoons. After 4 hours ENDEX was called and the companies came in for some maintenance and Avatar Ale.

Pictured here is a platoon from the ROD’s Hell Hounds (A Company / 2-70 Armor) from the Hussar Regiment attacking past a tank from the ROD’s Saber Troop that had been eliminated.

Pictured here is the ROD’s C Troop / 5th ACR from the Dragoon Regiment conducting maintenance and accounting for all equipment after the battle was over.

Stick around tankers! There will be an awards ceremony this afternoon and then a BBQ in Tread Head Park that will last as long as the Avatar does! Rapper Big Phattie will perform at 1800, followed by rock band Tongue Box at 2100.

The POP tank companies retreated back to their own camp, to host their own end of event celebrations, with the cooks providing us with a hearty meal with Crown Royal and Da Vincian Wine to go with it. we've signalled our Transport ships to take us back to our home nations after the award ceremony.

Why do you come all this way to sequester yourself in your motor pool? Should we just not invite you to future events?

The CoC appreciates the wonderful hospitality of ROD. Great competition, safe setup and implementation.
Glad to provide Avatar. There is one complaint, someone came into camp and stole about 2 dozen pair of underwear. If they needed them, glad you have them.
A point of note, there are three M26 Pershing Tanks sitting about 400 meters from the viewing stand for spectators and dignities. They are full of $%… mud!! There might be some museums that would like to have an M26.
Almost all have boarded the two RoRos. Departing soon, get clearance from the Harbor Master, Sep up Harbor pilots for those two ships and a tanker, not an Avatar Ale tanker.

The POP Tank Companies are loaded up and are returning back to their home nations. The Royal Canadian Dragoons are proud to win the two trophies for the tank shooting competition, these will be put on display at CFB Petewawa next to their KF-51 Panther during a Celebration they are hosting at the base before Canada Day on July 1st.

The KDF would like to thank the Rod for another well run program. As always their high standards and professionalism was on display.
Many useful lessons have been noted and no doubt there will be a big after action debate in the days and weeks to come.
For the KDF much work still needs to be done, it is generally admitted that the full time units are stretched to thin. Retention of manpower and not hitting recruitment targets is now openly the talk in the KDF.
We need change, we need more tanks lol.

The Karmanaskis Minister of Defence (Ivor Jobsworth MP) has called on the Chief of the Defence Staff General Duffer, to explain the poor showing of the KDF in the ROD's Tanker competition.

The name calling in the ivory towers can be heard from the sidewalks.
Extra paper has been ordered for the cascade of reports from nameless departments within the armed bureaucracy!

The ROD is seeking feedback from some of the smart folks on this forum.

Currently, our divisions are organized along the US Army model of the late 1990s / early 2000s. That’s 3 maneuver brigades, an aviation brigade, DIVARTY, DISCOM, DIVENG, plus some other stuff.

So here is the question: is it weird to have an aviation brigade at the division level? Sure it’s cool to have Apaches and Blackhawks available, but does it ever get too cumbersome having to find suitable aircraft facilities in addition to maneuvering the tanks and infantry? Can you keep operating helicopters from FARPs and improvised landing areas indefinitely? Or would putting all the helicopters in corps aviation brigades be easier to manage and they can be attached to a division as needed?

The ROD is considering moving divisional aviation units to corps aviation brigades. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

im thinking it would be kind of cumbersome for the ROD Army helicopters to find suitable sites for landing while manoeuvring tanks and infantry at the same time.

It might be. 6 on one side, a half dozen on the other. Why? Please explain.
