looking at these pictures reminded me of this photo documentary by a woman who lives in the Ukraine. She has two fascinating pieces. One on the Serpents Wall, which includes pictures of WWII artifacts she and her friends have found, and another on the dead zone around chernobyl. I highly recommend taking a look at both of them. I am going to post links to them in their own thread titled "Kid of Speed". Check it out if you haven't seen them before!

I think one of my swedish friends, Hans Sogndal, was on the T34 dig. According to him, the tank was driven later the same day! Amazingly!

Looks like the earth has belched up another T-34 in pristine condition!

In this case a rare OT-34 has been dug up from the swamp near Pskov in Russia:

Any details on this besides the pictures?
I wish I had something witty to say...

Pitfall pondered:

From my Russian-speaking friend who originally pointed the images out to me:
Vladimir Yabukov told me:
Apparently it was a part of the Dmitry Donskoy column (IIRC those were the tanks that were bought with money from Russian Ortodox church). I have no idea as to the circumstances of its loss. It was recovered last Sunday.

The Donskoy column was pretty well publicized by the Soviet propoganda machine. OT-34s and T-34/85s. Zaloga's works have several pictures of the presentation ceremonies.

I'm thinking that places the loss at Bagration or just after. I'll try to dig up a bit more on the unit's history...
