There were other two "bridge" Churchill. The small box girder bridge used by the AVRE and the ARC (or ARK). In this case the Churchill hull was part of the bridge.itself so, technically, could not be called a "layer"

Hi all ! :D

I could not wait, I did mine few years ago in scratchbuilding :

Trailor is made in plastic card, wheels come from spare parts from "GHQ WWII "dragon wagon" M26 Pacific heavy recovery truck.

Same thing for this "carpet layer" (scratchbuilding) :

I hope GHQ will make these original models soon... (must have for late WWII in europe)

Engineers equipment (pontoons, rubber boats, Bailey's bridge, trucks crane, ...) are very important for gamers (and collectors too !) : how playing the crossing of a river without them ? :(

AVRE's

Excellent work, Pibber! Did you hand paint the formation signs on the AVRE's? If yes, your eyes and hands are in better shape than mine.

Thanks for your comment "groundlber" :)

Yes, all 79th division signs are hand painting. I try to make them very stylized... because they aren't made to be watched too closely (I'm not a collector, I'm a gamer so, on a gameboarding table during a game, these signs looks good  )

I agree with the Romanian stuff already posted.

Also Polish and Russian armored trains. How cool would they be in a combat command pack.

I am not sure I understand why folks are so interested in armored trains.

I admit they can look cool. So maybe just for the modelling and collecting?

But for wargaming ... I don't know how you would use them. Very few rulesets have armored train rules. And even if they do ... they are rather impractical in wargaming.

First ... the key advantage of an armored train is operational mobility. It can show up 100 Km away in the proverbial blink of an eye. But with a game table that is maybe ... maybe ... 6 to 8 Km on its longest dimension, what's the point of even having a train line?

And then you have that whole issue of ground scale. Our models are 1/285, but our typical rules give us a ground scale of either 1/2000 (most common) or 1/1000 (less common). So ... you build a small armored train that is only 8 or 10 cars long, in 1/285, and by the rules it comes out almost a Km long. But since there are only 8 or 10 cars in that Km of length, it is woefully under-gunned vs. historical trains. Then add to that the guns hardly have the range to fire from one end of the train to the other. Where's the sense in that?

I don't mean to say you shouldn't want them. If you want armored trains, that's fine with me. Maybe you've figured out how to work them into gaming. If so, I'd welcome your ideas. 'Cause I haven't.

That said, I would very much welcome some trains. But for me they would be little different from model buildings. A couple of flat car, box car, and passenger car models would be enough for me. Then I could set up some track and a railhead or switching yard, and it would give me something to fight over.

I think and i feel that you will agree , That GHQ has become more then just wargame pieces.
They are some of the most expensive models in the scale of 1/300, 6mm and 1/285th.
They are in effect miniature works of art. I always had a dream of collecting at least one of every model GHQ makes and building a minnie Museam to house them ahhh well....
So i do empathise with the way you feel I also think the people that want them should get them (armored and regular trains). But then again im a fringe player anyway I play skirmish games with them (GHQ) like Ambush Valley and FOR and Tommorows war...LOL..........Mikey

Hi all!!!

Ok, here is my WW2 wish list for the next year:

Civilians!!!!
Yes, I know I am not the first, but we need western civilians (and vehicles) to make some credible scenery. We are tired of playing in ghost towns...

Soviet Army
- 85 mm AA gun. Germans have their 88mm, why soviets haven´t got any heavy AA?
- Soviet medium bomber (IL-4, for example). Same reason as before.

Japanese army
(Ok, I know they are not allied...but they need everything!!!)
Japanese army, despite beeing one of the most important factions in WW2, seems to be a little undercovered, making them almost unplayable (they have less models than Poland or France, for example). I think a little improve could be:
- Infantry 2. Major nations have their second infantry blisters, with new poses, etc. Japanese army is mainly an infantry force, and the first release is a bit old.
- Artillery (and artillery gunners!). Same reason as before.
- Some decent AA (or simply some AA!!)

See you, and have a nice new year!!

I want to add pack mules. Note mules not horses. They may be used by the iinfatry of many nations: mountain troops, allied troops in Italy, chindits, marauders, etc.

The load shoul be of general type, may be with some MG or mortar. Pack artillery may be too specific in this case.

Hi TAMMY,
Until GHQ creates castings try baccus6mm, They offer them in their accessories/equipment section. I don't own any yet but they have some great options. Ox drawn wagons, HD wagons (4w) and carts (2w), pack mules, pack Camels.

Ciao

Hi Redleif

I have Baccus pack mules as well as some made by Irregular Miniatures but they are suitable for ancient/medieval. use only.

The main problem is the "civilian style" loads they have besides missing a modern saddle pack. Give a look to the load of GHQ pack horses load (G73 or G74) to see what I mean, even if their load is lighter than that of a pack mule,.

Thanks for sharing that TAMMY.
That's too bad, I had hoped they would be generic enough to pass for any era. Considering the source it isn't surprising as that firm's military stuff is all 19th century or earlier.

I'll just have to wait for the real thing from the best sculptors in the business to produce them after all.

Pibber those models and terrain look amazing! Where did you get the brass etched fencing in the background?

Some more British trucks would be nice like the
Bedford MW
Austin Light Utility (with canvas cover)

and some more early war French trucks .Cheers
Kieran
