How do you find opponents for gaming?

As far as I know, ImagiNations are just an excuse to mix and match kit. There is nothing to "join." You just locate others who do the same and play against them. But it lets you field a fun mix of, say, Chinese APCs with French tanks and German Sp guns....

I know that fictional African countries are quite popular. Some have come together in little groups (we have one on this forum) that have imaginary continents, countries etc.
