It’s the last day of Grunt Week, and for some the day started out with a nice PT session and then some time at the lake for water ops. The adjacent rappel tower was busy as well, with attendees spending some time in the harness for rappel drops off of the tower and off of helicopter skids.

For most people though, the focus was on the final mission for the competition squads. Their target: a bunker complex on a hillside near a stream. Spectators crammed into viewing areas and the helicopters returned, but this time to pick up the squads. The Grunts found a hot LZ waiting for them as they conducted a company-level air assault mission to destroy the bunker complex. Everyone knew it was the last mission, so no one held back. All blank ammo and pyro was expected in the thunderous assault, that saw the squads falter at first, but ultimately prevail against the well-entrenched enemy.

A short AAR occurred on the hill, and then the squads were permitted a leisurely cattle car ride back to the barracks where they indulged in hot showers, food, and some sleep.

This afternoon there will be a short awards ceremony, followed by the farewell barbecue. Enjoy some ribs, burgers, hot dogs, and some Avatar Ale courtesy of our Balzac friends.

The Commonwealth on behalf of all our members express our sincere appreciation to the hosts of Grunt Week. We had a fun time, a painful time, and no time to sleep or rest. Just as it should be. The competitors and participants report wonderful experience, a couple of contested discussions, great competition and sharing of some ideas. The ranking Flag Officer in attendance, M.G. Howard P. Cunningham, III, learned that there was a bunch of horse trading of patches, knives, lighters, and even boots.
We hope the the ROD base security will keep an eye out for a 5-ton Balzac Tanker painted in red, yellow, green, white & black. It was at 97% capacity of Balzac Brew, it was seen with a camo net flapping as it was moving down the tarmac. We are sure it will be empty once it is located. The drivers were distracted and tied up at a Stop sign.

The Expert Warrior Badge is not a competition. It is presented to any infantryman that can meet the requirements. We handed out a lot that week!

The CoC, in aggregate received 18, I’m sure the NC received over 82.

Mark your calendars, imagi-nation aviators, the 2025 International Fighter Rodeo is happening! The event will be held March 16th through March 23rd at Vulture Field in the ROD and it is open to the international imagi-nation community!

The International Fighter Rodeo is a week-long event that brings the best combat pilots together from all over the world to hone their combat skills and to promote camaraderie and interoperability.

Once again, this year each PLAYER is invited to send 4 squadrons to the event. The squadrons may be all from the same imagi-nation, or they may be from different imagi-nations. The following squadron guidelines must be followed by all participants:

• The 4 squadrons must include 2 fighter squadrons and 2 attack squadrons. Any airframe may be used, but the squadrons must be designated as either fighter or attack for the competition.
• Each squadron will consist of 12 aircraft and no more than 150 personnel. All 12 aircraft in the squadron must be the same type.

Additional support aircraft and personnel are welcome, though they will not be involved in the competition. The ROD will provide housing and meals for all participants, dignitaries, and media as well as fuel, live ordnance, training ordnance, and ground transportation during the event.

The basic structure of the event remains the same: There will be three competition categories: fighter, attack, and support.

Fighter Category
-Low-level course. All 12 pilots will complete a challenging course at low altitude, negotiating a series of man-made markers and natural terrain features designed to test a pilot’s ability to maneuver at low altitude. Score is based on time and accuracy.

-Drone shoot. All 12 pilots will intercept an unmanned drone and destroy it with cannon fire. Aircraft will be airborne when the drone is launched and will be directed to the target by AWACS aircraft. Time will start when the fighter is 20 miles away from the target. Aircraft without internal cannon will mount an external 20mm gun pod for this event.

-Head-to-head. All 12 pilots will participate in a 1-on-1 dogfight with another fighter. 2 points will be awarded for a victory, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. Pilots will participate in 2 dogfights and then the pilots with the most points will enter a semi-final stage leading up to one pilot being named top dogfighter.

Attack Category
-Low-level course. All 12 pilots will complete a challenging course at low altitude, negotiating a series of man-made markers and natural terrain features designed to test a pilot’s ability to maneuver at low altitude. Score is based on time and accuracy.

-Cannon shoot. All 12 pilots will attack a stationary ground target and destroy it with cannon fire. Points will be awarded for accuracy. Aircraft without internal cannon will mount an external 20mm gun pod for this event.

-Bomb drop. All 12 pilots will attack a stationary ground target and destroy it with a 500 lb unguided bomb. Points will be awarded for accuracy.

Support Category
-Aircraft maintenance. A panel of distinguished aircraft maintenance experts will inspect all 12 aircraft and award points based on the overall readiness and condition of the squadron’s aircraft.

-Aircraft pit-stop. All 12 aircraft will begin the competition airborne with a full load of blue painted training ammunition and ordnance, but with minimal fuel. The entire squadron will land and be refueled by the ground crew. All ammunition and ordnance will be downloaded and replaced with a full complement of red-painted training ammunition and ordnance. Time will start when the first aircraft touches down and will end when the last aircraft lifts off after refueling and rearming.

Grand Finale
The rodeo will culminate in a major air battle with all aircraft participating in a force-on-force exercise that will test combat skills as well as the ability to operate effectively in a multi-national force.

[GM’s Note: No real people or micro armor aircraft need to move for this event. Please just add pics of your aircraft and let me know who is participating. All competitions will be resolved by me by dice roll. Aircraft can be in any scale (1/285, 1/600, 1/2400). You do not even need to have a full squadron – the squadron commander’s aircraft will do!]

If you would like to participate, please notify the ROD Ministry of Defense and include the squadron designations and aircraft types.

The NC squadrons are locked in. Having 4 squadrons of CF-21s will certainly make spare part management easier!

Today the Minister of Defense, the Honorable Magnus McHammerhands, announced which squadrons would be representing the ROD at this year's Fighter Rodeo.

For the first time ever, the Air Force was shut out of the fighter category. The two ROD fighter squadrons are:

-VFA-9 Gunslingers from the Navy (F/A-18C)
-VMFA-15 Night Stalkers from the Marine Corps (F-35B)

The Air Force made up for it by dominating the attack category. The two ROD attack squadrons are:

-48th TFS Banshees from the Air Force (F-35A)
-60th TFS Orcas from the Air Force (F-111F)

Only 11 days until the competitors arrive at Vulture Field!

That's great news! We are looking forward to crews, pilots, and guests from the CoC, Balzac, Estoniadom, and Moroccodom joining us! And of course, we are really looking forward to those flying kegs of Avatar beer!!!

Currently we have 16 squadrons slated to participate -a total of 196 aircraft! There is always room for more though if the KDF wants to participate (or anyone else with an imagi-nation!)
