Most of the utility uniforms became a "sage" green color the more they were washed. You can use "light olive" in the mix also.

It was common for uniforms to be a mixture of colors and shades of olive green with the newer Soldiers or Marines having darker shades and veterans having a mixture. Units that were in the field for several weeks at a time tended to get new utilities when they returned to base or ship depending on the branch of service.

This link http://www.indochinamilitaria.com/uniform/index.htm will take you to a source for uniforms of the period most of which were never worn in the field so were never washed, but they give you an idea of the original color of some of the uniforms of the period. Some where much darker OD depending on the contractor and the batch.

Here is a picture of some GHQ Marines.

Excellent point Will. You can use quite a few different shades of OD if you want to be realistic with the looks of your units ... BTW I like the looks of your marines( but too much red tint?, in the picture).

Will,

You need to stop posting pictures of 15mm figures and claiming that they're 6mm.

:-)

Outstanding job on the camo! I wasn't going to try camo at this scale but now I will. I have some Vietnam American infantry that I'm going to use for a current third world force. I'd like to do them in a sort of gray and green tiger stripe which seems more common in PacRim countries.

I'm always amazed at what people can achieve in 6mm!

This thread was such an inspiration to me for my Vietnam gaming, I just had to bump it back up after finding it again.

Has anyone photographed any of their Ontos or new M-48 models yet? I just re-read Zumbro's book, Tank Sergeant, and it is a great source for some good scenario ideas.

I saw someone post looking for ideas for making rice paddies and hadnt seen any replies to that. Might have missed it, but what I am doing is to take a wooden base from Michaels crafts that is about 2" x 3", sand down the edges, and make a double rice paddy area, painting a wet paddy area with "Mississipi Mud" paint, also from Michaels. After that dries, cut out some leftover blister pack plastic and just glue at the edges so it covers the paddy area(s). The build up the dykes around the edge. Touch a spot of green for each rice plant then go ahead and flock the ground area around the paddy. I can put a hut or two and two small paddy rectangles on one wooden base, or take three different huts to make up a village base. The recent release of the Vietnam civilians gives you water buffalo and civilian workers to populate the bases with.

Simply amazing stuff... Takes me back.

Really captures the look of RVN brown water war.

Fantastic! Those Lurps are amazing. How did you convert them? Using ANZAC Slouch hats or otherwise?

LRRP by Pibber

Post by pibber »

Hi all ! :D

Figurines are from US Nam individual infantry.
The M60 MG come from US Nam Hv Weapons : I have to cut it from the base and fix it on a US soldier after cutting M16 rifle.
I glue two small styrene sheet to make the front bipode.
I add (with putty) M60 cartrigde's band on the soldier's body. :)

I make two hats by sculping them on the head's figurine : I had widen them with a small ball fraise on a mini boring machine and add putty.
This method was very hard to do and very dangerous for the head's soldier !!!
So, for next hats, I've prefer change my method : hats were made in Evergreen sheet styrene (sculpting with hobby knife, widen with small fraise and finishing with small sand paper)
Sleeves on some figurines are longger than originals. I add putty on them.

I try to make a mini MG "stoner" on a figurine (first photo, see the infantry base on the right side). (however, I'm not entirely statified of the result)
The officer, alone on a base plate, is the figurine who's trowing a hand grenade in the US Nam individual infantry. His arm was twist and I glue on his hand a small pewter sheet to make a map.
Some Fumi hand grenade were had on some figurines.
The Sgt next to the RTO, on the same base plate, is a three part figurine : legs are from one US Nam figurine, body is from the US Nam soldier with field glass and hat strachbuild in sheet styrene. 8)

Too much work for this squad ! My unit is now complete but however, if GHQ makes a LRRP's (or SEALs) pack with good weapons (M16w/M203, Stoner, M60 MG w/magasin cartridge, ...) and bush hats in the futur, I'll take it immediatly because I'm sure GHQ will be able to product a very hight quality of infantry model's figurines ! :P

Thanks for your regards.
Pibber.
