Vietnam Thread
Hi Pibber
Great stuff as usual! Quite inspirational, but I'm currently up to my eyeballs in WWII - specifically doing British North Africa at the moment. I always look forward to seeing more of your work. Keep it coming.
Hi Opscenter
Great looking aircraft. I actually do have some of the GHQ Vietnam figures and some buildings and even a couple of "slicks". Eventually I will do something up in this period but have plenty of WWII to keep me occupied for now.

rct. ...it's made from balsa, plastic, and paper.
I too have fond memories of the AC, except for the usual smell of animals in the AC I frequented up north. Fun to land at Phu Bai or Chu Lai on the mat... I seem to remember a silver C-46 parked in front for the hangar at Phu Bai for a very long time next to the Mohawks.

An image from a Vietnam village assault game from last year also using terrain maker. It was modelled after the famous attack scene from Apocalypse Now.

I always return here for inspiration when trying to sort out how to do something Vietnam related. I've been working on trying to get a few rice paddies made up on 2"x3" wooden bases, but so far nothing has the right look to it. What would you guys recommend? Thanks for the help. I'm running a game a Advance The Colors in September, but won't need rice paddies for that, just heavy jungle, and I can model that pretty well as it is.

Tom, try using clear plastic (probably fairly thick sixteenth to an eighth) over a dark brown base. You could make various shapes and sizes that you could group together. Perhaps each paddy could have a half bank that could be combined with other half banked pieces to form the normal random pattern seen in RVN. Or, you can make groups of paddies into a set piece that can be combined into the larger scene depending on the terrain system you use. You can add some fine light green turf if you want randomly or in neat rows using white glue or just spread a little on each paddy right before they are to be used.

Thanks for that. I happen to have 2 sheets of clear plastic that I didnt know what I was going to do with them. Bought them for basing some WW2 naval stuff before my friend decided to go with wooden bases. I'll give that a try. Should be able to make up more than enough that way.

I came across this link on TMP's modern painting site. Once you get past the first four background screens, there are numerous color pictures of troops, equipment and terrain to inspire the Vietnam War gamer.

I wanted to bring this thread back so those new to GHQ could see the work of one of the best modelers in our scale...
Pibber's Vietnam modeling in our scale is phenomenal.
I am always in awe when I look at his stuff!

What is the consensus on the US VN Ind Inf; flak jackets or not? They appear to be sculpted that way but painting them is a whole other issue.
