Wow. As always, shockingly good stuff, Pibber! Truly remarkable. Not only the quality of the painting (more on that below), but also in the construction of the scene. Those guys openning the hatch and looking below the flight deck ... very well conceived and executed. Truly life-like in appearance.

That 'copter is fantastic. But do my eyes deceive me? Other than the national air emblem decals (the stars-and-bars), it appears that all the rest is ... dare I say it ... hand painted?!? The NAVY, and the serial numbers, all hand-painted? Wow and wow again!

I also hand-paint the markings on my units ... but one or two numerals on a given model is about all I can usually manage.

Image
This brand-X L3 "Grasshopper" is the farthest I've ever gone on unit markings. Given how much effort it took to get all of the letters to be almost the same size, I could not have possible painted up more than one. It was exhausting.

So ... with some minor insight into how much work is present in that 'copter, I say: BRAVO!

Aah, something to look forward to in the new year. Blitzkrieg!*

*Tanks in advance.

That's it, I quite! 15,000 micro armor pieces for sale.

pibber, how the heck do you do that? Are you like a neurosurgeon when you're not putting the rest of us to shame. Maybe you're only 1 inch tall yourself, that's it isn't it. Well, whatever it is your work is amazing.

pibber's CH-46

Post by pibber »

Hi all ! :D

Thank you very much guys for your comments, they feel me strongly.
Those pictures are for your inspiration. Hope they give you some good ideas for develop your own Vietnam's battlefields and figurines.
I hope they give ideas too for GHQ to make new models in Vietnam line...(barges, new boats...)

To MK1 : Your "grassshopper" is very cool too and it's not very big too ! :D
(good paint job on it !)

Yes, except nationals emblems (decals), all the rest is hand painted.
(yes, hard job for my eyes ! Maybe I will make just an another one in "Navy" color like this and that will be all !)
I'm working on an "US Marines" version (for Vietnam) of the CH-46.
It will be in "olive green" color with all marks too.
Hope it will be successful because I project to make few in this color for my US Marines unit...

Again, this Navy's CH-46 model is destinate to play with, for Vietnam wargaming 1:1 scenarios. (particulary to bring mails orders, resupply, military advisors, ... for US Mobile Riverine Bases like APB's, barrack ships or LST's)

(aaah yes, I'm 1 inch tall myself, but, shuuuuut , it's my secret !!! )

Best regards,

Pibber,
Very nice, great work. Thank you for sharing.
Your M113ACAV and the M106 vehicles, with the mortar, glue on the M60 w/gunshield on the side and rear deck? Did you dig out any M113ACAV?

They look nice.

M113

Post by pibber »

Thank you Chrisswim ! :D

Yes, the M106's commander's hatch was dig out to put the ACAV turret.
(ACAV turret and these two M60 w/gunshield are spare part from GHQ)
In Vietnam, many US M106 have ACAV kit added.
It mean that open top M106's hatchs were obviously intended to be left open permanently... :?:

Nonsense, pibber isn't 1" tall. That would be ridiculous.

What he's doing is taking real pictures from Vietnam and photoshopping in fake backgrounds to make them LOOK like they're 1/285 scale!

Seriously, amazing job pibber.

Pibber,
#59, is that a Recoilless rifle?
#44, is that a mini-gun in the commanders station?
The far M113ACAV, has a larger recoilless rifle on the starboard side?

Nice, thank you. Appreciate you providing these photos and sharing with us.

Pibber's M113

Post by pibber »

Hi all ! :D

To chrisswim,
yes, M113 #59 had a 106mm recoiless Rifle mount on the top, and #44 had a mini gun in the commander's cupola instead of the cal.50.
I have seen all these modifications in the excellent book "Vietnam armor in action, Concord publications company, armor at war series, n°7040". (additionals M60 w/gunshield on M106 mortar carrier were be seen in this book too)
The book treat about M48A3, M88, M1131ACAV, M106, used during Vietnam war... A must have book for any Vietnam armor's passionate. (and Vietnam's wargamers too !)

The M113 with the 106mm RR was used for fire support. Its field of fire was limited to the front and to the right front quarter.
The M113 with the mini gun was often used for opening roads for US military's trucks or armor's convoys in Vietnam. Its fired power of 3000 rounds per minute, it's a very "good" weapon against VC !

(More various Vietnam's armored figurines pictures from me will coming in early 2011, ......)

To JB and Gridley : thank you for yours comment.

great pic

Post by chrisswim »

Pibber,
You have provide some great pics of some wonderful models. The detail and your imagination is almost unlimited. Very nice, I am in admiration.

The boats are great. I also really like the 'gun' trucks. I have made a few for Iraq, yours look very nice. The open cab.... are those models manufactured by another co.? On my gun trucks, I used index card stock, then smeared glue on it, then painted the vehicle. What did you do? What is your process.

thank you again for sharing your work with us.
