Aaah great news!

So long as I can still get Humbrol paints I'm happy.

Cheers DK.

Thanks Tom and thanks for the comments!

I will be posting another entry here dealing with a 1942 company of Panzergrenadiers and their transports - complete with scratchbuilt rolls/netting and crewed support weapons. I am currently putting together figures for the infantry stands - lots of scratchbuilding...

1943 Waffen-SS Gepanzert Panzergrenadierkompanie

Post by Ritter »

Hello All.

My current project is a '42-43 Waffen SS PzGd company and a '42 SPW 251 Ausf C Halftrack Company. The Infantry are based on the Winter German sculpt with some Afrika Korps cap-equipped truppens thrown in for good measure. There is a great deal of arm-bending and head-transplanting going on so the following pics are not for the squemish!

First the Halftracks. Using the excellent 251/1 Ausf C sculpt, (Ritter, your such a brown-noser...) I have added some extra crew stowage from Fimo, Helmets, and crew figures from spare leaders and the German Artillery trupens...

A simple Tarp...Fimo
Image

Tarp and Helmets...what am I gonna do with all those head-less Leaders?
Image

Image

Tarp and Crew packs...Fimo. A AA MG added from extra HMG; shield removed and shaped
Image

Platoon Commanders vehicle (251/10) with added 3.7cm PaK 35 added from the German Heavy Weapon pack. Sandbags added to the fromt with Fimo.
Image

Image

Another 251/10 - this one with a crew from the Art-crew blister and a camo-net from Fimo.

251/2 8.1cm mortar carrier.

Infantry next...

Infantry: The lack of Waffen SS camo-smock infantry has forced me to scratchbuild and modifiy some of my own. The winter blister has few good poses for scratchbuilding but the crouching officer, and the grenadier are the best of the lot. The hood lip can be shaved down and the result looks somewhat like a cloth helmet cover. The winter uniform can easily pass for a camo-smock at this scale.

The first thing I have is the Staff team - (GHQ). I nicked this idea from Cav Dog but I dont have a puppy...only a MG-34 LMG on the ground...

The Radio operator - Flamethrower converted. Rifle scratchbuilt from spare pewter.

Next, the table...helmet - another headless leader; barrels, table, ammo cans, scratchbuilt
Image

Posed...Obersturmfuher taken from the winter blister, head lopped off and a slightly sanded down Russian Officer cap and head added to look like a crusher. Winter grenadier re-posed.
Image

Ammo Carriers...Winter hood carved away and ammo can scratchbuilt.

Posed...

Great models, great preparation. I also bought some winter infanty to make SS or "sturm" troops, so i can easily distinct on the board the "green" troops dressed in feldgrau from the vets wearing the smocks and riding the halfratcks.

I always wondered, how make tarps and sandbags? Do You use some kind of gummy earth? (i don't know how to call it in english). Do you model it using fingers or using some instrument?

Mostly I use bamboo skewers from shishkabobs; shaped into tools.
