Donald M. Scheef wrote:Personal Opinion of 2019-2020 Micronaut Releases

This year, GHQ’s schedule for 1/2400 Micronauts offers a pretty good selection. It’s great to see another dozen ship models. Personally, it’s not as good as last year for me. None of the dozen types are from my personal wish list. However, six of the items will be on my shopping list as soon as they are released. With respect to the Consolidated Micronaut Wish List, two of the twelve ships were in the top four vote-getters and four others were in the top 100.

Here are some personal comments on the individual 2019-2020 Micronauts, beginning with what I consider best for me:

UKN (57 or 58) WWII UK sloop Black Swan-class, unmodified. These were very good anti-aircraft escorts with adequate anti-submarine capability. Although GHQ specifies the unmodified version, of which only four were built, the modified Black Swan version, with 25 hulls, differed only in increased beam and details of the light AA. It had 40 votes (alone in 4th place) on the Consolidated Micronaut Wish List. I will certainly get two packs to model the original four. Since it’s unlikely that there will be a separate model for the modified Black Swans, I’ll probably get eight more packs.

Don S.
Don,
There actually were (12) of the unmodified Black Swans - (8) for the Royal Navy and (4) for the Royal Indian Navy

GHQ,.
When making the M1A2 SEP TUSK II, could you please mold the ma duece seperately, if you have one on the barrel.
Quantity has a Quality all its own.

Understanding it may not be possible, but it would be nice to have a picture album earlier than the product issue date.

The 2019-2020 Releases

Post by pmskaar »

First of all, thanks for the new release list GHQ. I always look forward to seeing what is coming out in the coming year ahead.

My main interests are World War II and Cold War and the Arab-Israeli Wars of '67 and '73.

With that said, I am looking forward to the Diana and the new Italian truck for my WWII purchases. I may also be interested in the German bridges as well. I will have to see them.

The Bedspring and Tulip are something that I might get but there are other things that I would prefer.

I am extremely happy for the new M4 Shermans. Of particular interest is the split hatch turrets. These can be used for a number of the other GHQ Shermans as well and I will be ordering some separate turrets for that purpose.

For the Israelis, we have the Tiran 5 and I assume an Israeli version of the AMX 13/75. I hope the Tiran is the one for the '73 War. I have a pack of AMX 13/75s already so interested to see the differences between the Israeli and the original.

That is mostly it. I am not that much into Ultra-Modern but those that are should be happy.

I was disappointed to see hardly any new infantry - either Cold War or World War II>

Maybe next year!

News 2019-2020

Hello guys ! :D

Here was my « TOP 13 » WWII 2019-20 list. (maybe it give few additional ideas to GHQ team before it's too late and the models announced are definitively set …. )

1 - US dozer "Caterpillar" engineer + 20ton semi-trailer to carry it and prime mover (could be GHQ Diamond 6x6 Hv truck or GHQ Treadway Corbitt 6t truck), very common in engineer units and could go with awesome GHQ's Combat Command US engineers trucks.
2 - New 3t Opel Blitz truck « medium production », with open cargo hull, (rear cargo without tarpaulin) & with one 4X4 version into the pack. (very great)
3 - British Sherman ARV. (because we have no ARV for british armored units… !)
4 - Russian M 1937 type, 152mm long artillery gun, (tracted and deployed version) with a new prime mover.
5 - Russian Heavy artillery prime mover “Kominternâ€￾ or “Voroshilovezâ€￾.
6 - LVT4 "water buffalo" with MG & 20mm Posten gun (UK version).
7 - British Staff car.
8 - UK 15cwt Morris water tank truck.
9 - UK Chevrolet radio shelter 4x4 truck (with same cab’ from GHQ UK42 CMP 15cwt truck).
10 - Sdkfz 251/3 ausf.D (very good for late war 44/45)
11 - Sdkfz 251/17 ausf.D late version of the 20 mm AA gun (with the small turret inside the hull)
12 - German Field kitchen horse drawn.
13 - Sdkfz 251/16 ausf.D (Flamm thrower)

My « TOP 8 » Vietnam 2019-20 list was :

1 - US M54 5ton 6x6 Heavy truck (special Vietnam aera : without tarpaulin) (very good for convoys ! and good base for hv armored trucks… later).
2 - Russian light truck GAZ-63 4x4.
3 - NVA individual infantry « assault sappers ».
4 - US « Chinook », vietnam version (different air filter and different rear tail design).
5 - US Ford Mutt with Tarpaulin.
6 - US 3/4t M37 small truck.
7 - M54 tractor-trailer Hv truck with semi-trailer (semi-trailer without load) (transportation btn. Could be a great model to play convoy escort and "VC" ambush)
8 - AC-130 cargo plane (and great for a « gunship » version too !).

Others ideas :
US WWII :
- 90mm M2 Antiaircraft guns (fire & tracted positions, with 6t truck Corbitt without tarpaulin as prime mover)
- LVT(A)4 and LVT(A)1 waterline. (could be very good to play beaches assaults)

GERMAN WWII :
- SdKfz 251/3 & 11 ausf "D" pack (in HQ platoon in every late war Pz.Gr. company/battalion)
- Sdkfz 251/5 or 7 (assault engineer) ausf « D ».
- Sdkfz 251/16 (flamme-thrower) ausf « D ».
- Tiger « Ferdinand » (for Kursk 1943) (we have « elephant » but no « ferdinand »)
- Me.323 "Gigant" (Hv transport plane for eastern front) in a combat command. (2 « gigant » in resin with nose and wings in pewer to equilibre the weight of the model on the front)
- Heavy engineers bridge « brucko » with Sdkfz 7, 8t halftracks (or hv trucks) and heavy engineer trailors. (maybe in a combat command)
- German trailers #2 (Fieldkitchen x2, GS 2.5 ton, Generator x2, Searchlight on trailer x1)

RUSSIAN WWII :
- M 1937 type, 152mm long artillery gun (tracted and deployed version) with new prime mover model. (russian “must haveâ€￾ gun)
- Heavy artillery prime mover “Kominternâ€￾ or “Voroshilovezâ€￾. (to go with 203’s howitzers or 152’s guns).
- T-34 ARV WWII (without turret and with few accessories on the hull : cables, small spare parts, spare wheel, …)

ENGLISH WWII :
- Hamilcar heavy Glider (for heavy air landing with Horsa gliders)
- Diamond T 980 (M 20) & M9 trailer Rodger 45 ton.
- Churchill Tank assault bridge « Small Box Girder ».
- "Bailey bridge", engineer bridge (use everywhere with US & GB forces during WWII)
- Engineer Dozer (armored).
- Airbourne UK Jeep and airborne trailor.
- UK 15cwt Austin ambulance truck

VARIOUS WWII
- French/german civilians in walking positions. (very good for exodus situations)
- individual german Volksturm (in civilian suit with suitcoat and civilian hat, one or two bicycles in the pack, rifles and few panzerfaust in hands).
- japanese civilians.
- Russians individual civilians.
- Engineer Combat Teams for US, UK, G and R.

COLD WAR 50s and 60s :
- US M35 medium truck 6x6 without tarpaulin. (for vietnam and cold war)
- US Cobra helo, (the right model for vietnam war)
- US light helo « Sioux ».
- US Helo Sikorsky « Skycrane ».
- Vietminh infantry (same as actual GHQ's vietcong but remplace AK-47 by another weapon and less hats on heads)
- French, US & german infantry 1980-90 (for cold war in europe)
- Vietnamese civilians pack #2 : with bicycles, tricycle "ice cream", bicycles with cargo loading, one buffalo drawn wagon,....)
- LVTR1A1.
- US Ford Mutt with Tarpaulin and trailers. (Vietnam and after…)
- T-34/85 for Korean or Vietnam area (differents wheels and fenders comparate to WWII version)
- Russian heavy artillery prime mover tractor ATS.
- Russians engineer amphib’ pontoons...

I'm very happy to see that GHQ is once again very productive. It's always nice to see this company release many new models.
However, for me this year, I feel a little bit sad of seeing those new WWII ground models : the German canoes/assault boats are very interesting to play the crossing of the rivers, so it's pretty good. But for the rest, the other WWII models 2019-20 don't interest me (looking at my wish list) because, until now, we could do without them during a wargame.
Land matress is original, appear late at war, so, why not. But still no Sherman ARV UK, still no Russian artillery and a new heavy tractor, no Opel blitz medium production...
Maybe next year ... :P

Shermans.

Shermans, shermans, SHERMANS.

Put me down for some of the new Shermans. Presumable these are M4 (not just using M4 as a short-hand for some submodel like M4A1). Good. Good solid D-Day and beyond Shermans. I even went to the competition to get a company of M4s with the M34A1 mantlet and the split hatch, but they don't have applique armor. I've been staring at them wondering if I'll ever get to kit-bashing some applique armor onto them, and now I AM GLAD I WAITED.

Cuz I'm in for some new Shermans. Got to have at least a battalion of 'em.

Mmmmm. Shermans.

Oh, and I'll also get some of the Italian trucks. Pretty good choice. Will serve my Italian forces for the Eastern Front, Tunisia and/or Sicily. Can do double-duty with my French Army (oddity of WW2, that the French were ordering and receiving Fiat trucks right up until the two countries started fighting). These trucks were also found in the civilian market, as I understand it. So gotta get a few more than I need, and paint 'em up to add to my collection of Civvies.

So nice trucks to have. Those, and Shermans. Did I mention I'll be getting some of the new Shermans? I think I did ...

The 2019-2020 Releases

Post by pmskaar »

Please don't squeeze the Shermans! I thought Mk I would be fine with these as well. I did quite a bit of lobbying with GHQ and very pleasantly surprised with not 1 but 2 new Shermans for the coming model year.

If any of you are interested, I am a member of the 1/285th scale modeling group among several Facebook groups in our scale. Today, in honor of the Sherman announcement, I posted some pictures of my modified GHQ M4A3 75mm Sherman. I am a moderator for this group so if you are not a member already, come on and check it out.

I post a lot of pictures of my stuff on that site and the others as well.

I want to say that I love all 5 modern ships in the selection. They are great addition to modern micronaut collections!

For Micro Armour:

China- Type 59 MBT --
Not sure which version this is going to be. The modernized variant with reactive armour will be more desirable for my modern set. Yet I know there are many others who hold different views in looking for the original Vietnam war / Sino-Vietnam war / Gulf war variants.

China Z-10 attack helicopter --
Nice, this is what I have been asking for in the past 5 years.

Russia- Su-27 --
Very happy to see this as there are so many exported variants used by many countries e.g. China / Vietnam / India / Malaysia (the latter two with canards). Not sure which variant GHQ is going to model.

Japan- Type 16 MCV
Japan- Type 74 MBT
Japan- Type 87 SPAA
- Good to see that Japan's list is expanding :)

Thank you, GHQ!

It'll be interesting to see if GHQ's CVE-1 has the original short flight deck or the extended one. Randy Short (Snyder & Short) tells me that the U.S. built four more on the basic hull, (3 for the U.K.) & that it might be possible to "kit bash" the others by getting some bridge superstructures from one of GHQ's other CVEs to install on this ship - if the extended version is produced. There are some other differences with the later four, but at 1:2400 scale the absence of these differences might not be too glaring.

It better be the extended deck version, since it did all of her WWII service with the extended deck already in place. The deck was extended prior to the start of hostilities
