Couple of WIP pics and fun pics on Vietnam. It’s been a little while since last go around. The wife had hip surgery so I have been playing Nurse Ratched lately.

So I created 7 x LRRP/Ranger soldiers with Tiger Stripes. I took a shot at it to see if it would work out. In the process, I 3d printed backpacks for the guys and had to scale them down to fit the troopers. I also removed the M1 Helmet and installed a boonie hat for added fun.

Gotta have an RTO with antenna:

Now test them in the field…

Is the vill empty? Or are they walking into an ambush?

Started working on some additional US grunts as well. I came up with the three colors needed for the tri-colored M1 helmet but it does not come out very well in the pics. With the remaining infantry I have, I plan on painting them up as ARVN units. The distinguishing factor being the skin color and color of the helmet.

I received a new batch of Viet Cong infantry as well. I am trying a different paint scheme and I like it better. Means, I will need to go back and revise my prior infantry.

Playing with a new pigment powder I picked up. Working on refurbing my VC (few things I wanted to add) and working on a set of PBRs. PBRs are taking a while to reach primer. Making a bunch of little addons for the boats. Will see how it turns out.

The weathering is great, Polish! That's exactly what tracks look like in the field! Well done!

Thanks redleg. I trying this stuff out to see what it is like. Try and gum up the tracks.

Thanks Pete!

A couple of WIP shots.

So Im sitting on a bunch of ARVN infantry and a few APCs. So I am working through the M113s and ACAVs. That way, the ARVN will be all set from the infantry, to their APCs to their MBTs.

I bought some tufts a little while back and wanted to see what they would look like on a hex. Then on the main table. They add a cool addition I think…

Just a basic open hex with a few shrubs. In stages… Hex cut, painted brown top coat and tufts glued down.

Dirt added to hex.
Image

Grass added on top of the dirt layer to blend in…

After the basic/open hex was created… then I moved on to a light forest/jungle hex to see how everything came together.

Working on 4 PBRs as well…
Took forever printing off the things I need that were decent and in scale.
Items added to the PBRs include: ammo boxes, am/fm radios, 6 tires for each boat along the sides, random boxes, tool boxes, addt’l fuel drums. I am hoping I can figure out a way to add a flag pole so the American flag can fly. There are just not a lot of options in 1/285.

Very nice work there, Polish GI! Your base texture for the hex then is actual dirt? Is that correct? Did you add any paint to that?

The base texture looks really good! The added grass and trees really look good as well.

Thanks Pete!

Good ole fashion Arizona dirt. No added paint, straight out of the ground.

I am starting to like the tufts. Nice add for grass areas.

The base on the models run a little light. I have found that going with a true color and then weathering makes them too dark. So I head into the model with a lighter base coat, with weathering, it settles into a better shade.

Hi Polish GI

Thanks very much! Since I too live here in Arizona, specifically Surprise, I will consider using some of my fine backyard dirt in a future endeavor.

Thanks Guroburov!

With my luck, I spend a lot of time finding stuff in this scale... when I find something and can work with it... re-orders are impossible to find due to inventory issues or no longer made. So now... If I find a tree I like, I will order 300 trees! Thank you. lol
