I think I may have covered my basing before but to sum up. The figures are glued to the base and then filler is applied to hide the bases and act as the groundwork. Once that has dried watered down pva glue is applied and sand sprinkled on to give that texture. They're then given a coat of Humbrol 80 followed by a wash of Agrax Earthshade. The Humbrol 80 is heavily drybrushed on followed by a lighter drybrush of Humbrol 94. The foliage is added followed by a coat of matt varnish.
Another quick update.
I've finished revamping the first SMG Battalion (Above SMG Battalion - H&R old style figures). The old style bases are just Humbrol 80 with a drybrush of Humbrol 94 so to bring them up to my newer style I basically gave the bases a wash of Agrax Earthshade and then followed the other steps mentioned above.

This organisation reflects the one I've got that is part of a T-34/85 Brigade in a 1944 Tank Corps. As there are other organisations, I'll also add a few 'optional' items such as HMGs in the AA role and another set of 3 82mm mortars to increase the mortar company from 6 to 9 tubes.
The latest unit of my smaller armies. This time it's a Zrinyi II Company for my Hungarians. Model by H&R; decals by Dom's Decals; paints by Humbrol, Army Painter, and Vallejo.
Very nice work on the Csaba armored cars, Gazza! I have a few by GHQ that I will paint when I get around to my Hungarians someday.
Thanks Pete. These are one of the (admittedly few) GHQ models that I actually have. I'd previously bought the H&R offerings and was rather disappointed with them. I don't like to describe models as 'blobs of lead' as they'll still be miles better than anything I could sculpt but the those H&R models came close. Anyway, as part payment for something I was painting for him, a friend bought the GHQ ones for me.
I just wish I'd been brave enough to attempt the radio antennas they have. The GHQ model has 4 (of the 6 mounting points) cast. The aerial (for those that don't know runs around the rear of the hull from one side of the turret via the engine deck to the other side of the turret. Here's an image I found online, in which I've circled the mounting points. An etched brass aerial option could have worked I guess.
I got my latest order from BPM today. The lighter-coloured Priest Kangaroos are in the cheaper PLA material. I ordered three (got four) just to see how it compared. Although the resin stuff is about twice as expensive, I think I'll be sticking with the resin. The detail on the PLA is softer, the resolution isn't as good (which I already knew), and it looks to need more cleaning up.
Troops 2 and 3 of my Land Mattress Battery have been finished and have joined the 1st Troop in their storage box. I still need to do the command elements as well as some AA Bren guns and a PIAT team. I also have six launchers in their towed configuration that just need a coat of varnish and basing. I also need to get a few more trucks to complete the unit's transport.
Launchers by BPM; paints by Humbrol, Vallejo, Games Workshop, and Army Painter.
It looks like you have enough launchers there for a major, devastating barrage.
That's especially true when you realise that I've got twice as many H&R ones as BPM. Although I got the BPM ones because I don't like the H&R ones - they're rather crude models.
I was also given a couple of GHQ examples (1 towed; 1 deployed). Which are here along with a few broken BPM ones. Because they're quite fragile he always throws a few extra in free of charge. For example, the painted example here is missing it's front 'foot' so I've hidden that by sticking a bush there.
[EDIT]I noticed, rather late, that I'd messed up one of the quote tags.

Latest batch of 'stuff'. The matt varnish is still not completely dry - especially inside the SdKfz 251/11s.
PZL-46s by Heroics & Ros Ltd; Renault UEs and the two SdKfz 251 variants by Butlers Printed Models; decals by Flight Deck Decals, I-94, and the Polish markings are from old sheet of various Eastern Front nations who's origin I've forgotten;paints by Humbrol, Vallejo, Games Workshop, and Army Painter.
