I understand what you mean in respect to the Western front. However, the 1st world war on the eastern front from start to finish was a war of much movement with commanders trying to deal with new ideas and levels of command needed with huge armies. Often very interesting conclusions were drawn. Do not discount WWI in the east. It was very much not the static war of the west, and most of our modern history as well as notions developed about warfare were established during WWI in the east and south. Remember Rommels first command was during the Austrian offensive against the Italian army in which the Austrians and Rommel used manuvers Rommel would translate to tanks during the second world war.
WWI can be a great period to wargame and nobody really does it well in 6mm which is probably the best scale for it.

Yes i agree ( and i have written it before ) : eastern front something else, palaestine theatre and dardanelles too... And the austro-italien front perhaps starting withe the isonzo action.
But i guess it´s not very convenient, to start new ranges before the existing ones have been sufficiant " completed ". There is so much further potential in completing those existing ranges, that GHQ should fullfill some ( plenty of " some " )wishes, before starting new ranges. Only my opinion, not one of the ten commandments.
And i guess, Guderian and Rommel read the book by Lidell Hart
Often forgotten, that only the ignorance of british and french general staff made the " blitzkrieg " possible.
Tanks never had been used in WW I in their typical mobile role. They had been infantry support weapons, mobile warfare was cavalry, marching and TRAINS. So perhaps it could be a compromise, to use existing figure ranges, make some scratch changes and adding some stuff from the new range TRAINS.
TRAINS and AIRCRAFT seem to be stepchilds. But just these two aspects are the main axles on which modern warfare moves and railway stations and airfileds are always main targets in tactical and strategic plans.

Your right about getting the old ranges done before any new ones. I guess I thought of this thread as kind of a fantasy type thing. Nothing that would come true or anything. I have always been interested in the lesser known or gamed wars so when I saw this thread I let my imagination go.
I have been looking at WWI and Russo-Japanese war for a long time. I also love 6mm and GHQs infantry. And nobody really does this in 6mm at least not well, so that was my vote. Maybe someday. For existing ranges I would love to see some more modern infantry. We need South Africans and maybe some Balkan type malitia in those black masks and hoods.

Gentlemen,
As a collector and a modeler more than a gamer, I find the prospect of GHQ expanding back into the World War I era quite appealing. It would allow for a "family tree" of armor to be shown, from its inception to the current day.
Plus, ya gotta admit -- a lot of that "early stuff" is pretty darned cool looking -- guns poking out in every which direction, and rivets, rivets, and more rivets!
Regards,
Tom Stockton

Perhaps we should try to HELP and not CONFUSE the guys of GHQ ?
On the one side, there are our wishes, on the other side economic compulsions.
If they can produce both, the " wanted missing ones " and complete new ranges, why not ( for me : franco-prussian war please with a little bit colonial war and let´s say a hint 6mm romans perhaps as dessert thirty years war
).
But i guess it will be a either...or...

I like those ideas and great tank!! wish I could paint like that. However, I think colonial franco prussian war and 30 years war can all be done in 6mm. Buccus and heroics and ros have some nice stuff for these periods and I do all of them. WWI however is not done well by anyone. The 6mm stuff is fair at best, and if GHQ can do it like they do WWII and modern I think it would look great. I also think people would buy into the range if it was done well.

Ok... but first let em close the gaps in the existing ranges
. But remember, there will never be a tank battle , indeed never... and roaring males" and "females" over german trenches, many static, cause of technical problems. You must have TIME to game the trench war, much time time time
But it would be interesting to bring supply by train
Perhaps a 10mm range would be better then..detailed figures for the trench warfare, WHY NOT

cama,
VERY cool!! FR-1 -- Char B1 bis, correct? And I'm guessing that the camouflage is hand-painted, with the black demarkation lines drawn with a fine-tipped marker... Whatever method you used, it is quite impressive!
BTW, I haven't checked your website lately... as with most of our personal sites, it's probably a "labor of love", and time to do what we want to do is always in short supply... but have you done any updates, posted any pictures lately? (I know I haven't updated mine for a while... sigh

I'm still for a World War I line in Micro (6mm). What does it matter if the trench warfare was deadlocked for 3 years. In miniatures we might and more than likely undo the stalemate, besides GHQ WWI scale would be real cool...
I'm just thinking of the trenches to be made into the styrofoam,Austrian,Italian,Turkish Infantry among some of the other nations. Trucks (lorries),artillery pieces ,and tanks. 6mm would be the only way to go....

The main reason " contra " WW1 6mm ist simply the " art of warfare ". Artillery , ok but the main artillery would be " off board ". Heavy caliber artillery isn´t used in the front line.
Two trenches, no man´s land with thousands of craters...german barrage...german assault..failed...retreat... french counter attack... failed..retreat... survivors of both sides sitting in their trenches...artillery fire... and so on and so on... there wasn´t real mobile warfare after the summer of 1914 . Some breaktroughs ( even the one of chambrai in 1917 with the aid of 400 tanks was cleared ). With the arrival of the american expedition forces some changes. German summer offensive 1918 failed, retreeat...but not a real mobile warfare.

There wasn´t much movement until summer 1918 and at last american industry and manpower won that war for the allies ( as it did in WW II ). Everybody, who "loves" mobile warfare must be bored.
perhaps paleastine actions or the dardanelles fights, the guerilla action in german african colonies...
And my point of view is : complete existing ranges before starting new ones, there is so much work to do to fullfill all of the WWII and "modern" wishes .

No offense Bull`s Eye, but we get the freaking point. If you haven't noticed, in this thread we are discussing the possibility of new product lines. We're not saying to GHQ, "Make this or we will never buy your products again!"Bull`s eye wrote:And my point of view is : complete existing ranges before starting new ones, there is so much work to do to fullfill all of the WWII and "modern" wishes .
I'm sure that the guys at GHQ know what they're doing if they have stayed in business for so long. It is part of their job to get new product ideas from their market and if they do start to develop new product lines, they won't drop their current lines. That's just bad business. GM started the Saturn brand due to their customers' requests for small, more fuel efficient cars. Sure, some people didn't want Saturns, but GM decided that they could produce another line of cars in addition to Oldsmobile, Chevy, etc. Sure enough, when Saturns started rolling out the door GM was still making Chevys.
So, if you don't mind, please take your suggestions for filling gaps in the current lines to another thread, as there are several.
I wish I had something witty to say...

Thank your very much for your very interesting interpretation of democracy and the right of free opinion and speech.
In fact i often mentioned TRAINS in this thread, didn´t i ?
And what about pontoon bridges ?
So keep cool and calm down
And yes, i guess they new what to do, but that would make this discussion a little bit senseless ?
btw : to discuss includes a pro and a contra, otherwise it would be a simple wish list, or not

Why is it that everytime someone is questioned about something that they have said they throw the old standby in of "Freedom of Speech"?????
From what i understand GHQ are the only ones that can shut down these peoples accounts, therefore were just asking questions or making statements.
Please dont bring in your rights when your feelings are offended. And please stay on subject when you are in a thread, otherwise it just makes for that much more to shift through.
On the other side i would have to agree with JB, that we are all just simulating war, and that the outcome doesnt have to follow history. Therefore why not bring out WWI Minatures, if you dont want to buy them then just simply dont look at them.

Speaking of World War I... my guess is that Terrain Maker would work quite well in that era, too! I would imagine trenches could be done in much the same way "river hexes" are done -- just maybe not as wide! -- and paint them a muddy brown instead of shades of blue. However, all that barbed wire could be a pain in the keester!
Can't remember who did the World War I terrain I saw here a couple of years ago... was that you, cama? All I remember was it was pretty cool!
Regards,
Tom Stockton
