I have seen many photos of 666's with inflated pontoons on top. May not be as common as the un-inflated, but would make a great diorama. I wouldn't think a load would be too difficult to model

Tammy,
You are obviously much more of an expert than I am on this subject. I would love to know the TO&E of a bridging unit like this. It would make a great diorama with the bridge, support trucks etc....Could you share the TO&E with us?

The above photographs show configurations that would only work near the actual bridging site.

I can't give you the TO&E of the treadway company as it seems I have misplaced the relevant file, so I need time to find it.

I remember that a company had 36 x B666 trucks in two sections, plus 14 2 1/2 t trucks for trestles, 16 readway ends (8 wedges & 8 blunt), 22 reserve pontoons. I do not remember ihow many compressors on truck and cranes.

For the inflated pontton you have goy the point.
They were infated in preparation areas as near as possible to the river bank.
Theywere transported inflated when there was not an area avaiòlable near by.
Another reason to transport inflated pontoons were the rafts. It would be safer to inflate them in a place hidden to the other bank, so you could be faster in putting them in water.

It will be a bit expensive to build up a 1 to 1 Treadway company! Lots of trucks! I may settle for a bit smaller unit than that.

Thanks for the info Tammy!

You may tailor the unit on your need.

The set is equivalen to about 60 meters or 21 cm in scale. Consider the width of rivers on your table and buy the sets you need to cover it.

The CC gives more than enough to make a pontoon ferry set M2 as found in the US armoured divisions.
There is no right or wrong, only decisions and consequences.

The photo looks great. I think that will make a really nice set. I'm happy to see that there is a crane in there too. One thing that I noticed is that some of the pontoon bridges are longer than the parts included in the set. Are there going to be extra pontoon bridge sets available?

bridge set

Post by pibber »

Hello guys :) !

To 33YearsGHQ :
Waiting others informations from TAMMY, here is what I have for the « bridge company TOE’s » :

Bridging company Armored Division Battalion april 1943 . (T/E 5-218, 1 april 1943) :
- One Company Headquarter
- Two bridging platoons

1) COMPANY HEADQUARTER :
- HQ section -
1xM3 HT (HQ w/radio) ; 1xjeep amphibious ; 2xmoto (messengers)

- Engineer section -
1xjeep ; 2xcrane truck (6 ton trucks) ; 4xGMC 2-1/2 air compressor ; 16xGMC 2-1/2 (bridging material) with winch ; 1xHv truck wrecker M1 (the GHQ US Hv wrecker truck is really good, for example (US91) ) ; 2xGMC 2-1/2 + two boat trailers (load with one boat power utility each).
(GMC 2-1/2 trucks are load with 20 float, pneumatic, 6 ton, with paddles)

- Maintenance section -
1xGMC 2-1/2 maintenance wrecker. (the GMC "breakdown" in the GHQ pack US83)

- Aministration, supply and Mess -
1xDodge carriage motor M6 SP AT gun (Dodge 4x4 w/37mm AT gun) (may be substitute by AT gun 37mm M3A1 towed by a ¼ ton truck (jeep) .
4xGMC 2-1/2 (one for kitchen, three for equipment)

2) FIRST PLATOON (3xM6SP AT gun, 18xHv bridge trucks Treadway) :
- Platoon HQ -
1xM6 SP AT Gun.
- First section -
1xM6 SP AT Gun ; 9xbridge trucks Treadway.
- Second section -
1xM6 SP AT Gun ; 9xbridge trucks Treadway.

3) SECOND PLATOON (3xM6SP AT gun, 18xHv bridge trucks Treadway) :
- Platoon HQ -
1xM6 SP AT Gun.
- First section -
1xM6 SP AT Gun ; 9xbridge trucks Treadway.
- Second section -
1xM6 SP AT Gun ; 9xbridge trucks Treadway.

I project to constitute only one bridge platoon (3xM6SP AT gun, 18xHv bridge trucks Treadway = 5 Combat command !) and the whole HQ company. Maybe I ‘ll be able to constitute the second platoon later… (but 18 trucks with one platoon, it's already very well !)
I have no information about the exact number of Treadway elements in the company

Pibber,
Excellent information, thanks for sharing. Now I need to find a few boats. In some photos I have noticed an occasional LVT to be present as well.
