I clip the barrel off at the base (at the mantlet). I then drill a small hole, put cyanocryllate (super) glue gel on the base of the item to be inserted, and put it into the hole. Hold for about 20-30 seconds and set it down carefully to dry more fully.Guroburov wrote:BTW, do you drill a hole into the turret or just clip off the old barrel and glue straight on?
To drill I use a manual pin-vice. I bought a powered super-fine drill a while back, but gave it away after a few tries. Not enough precise control for my comfort.
I set a sewing needle into the pin-vise first, and put a little start-hole as a guide. Then I switch to a fine drill bit, two or three turns between thumb and 2 fore-fingers, and I'm ready to go.
I use the same approach for mounting my HMGs on turret tops, for drilling out hatches to mount commander crew figures in some sub-set of my tanks (often for command vehicles), and to put holes in the bottom of my aircraft for my rather simple game flight stands.
