First of all the rulebook is sllicker more professional looking volume and has nice color throughout.
New tank rules are good. Ace rules for tankers and infantry. The artillery section is also vastly improved.
All basically the results of 10 years of playing and developng new concepts and explanations.
It is still a cad driven, tactical game with variable movement and turn sequencing. Some gamers can't get the hang of it and I wouldn't try a game with more than four players,
It is the anti-FoW rules, designed to incorporate friction and historical tactics. Absolutely no point values listed for anything.

I myself have yet to try out v3, but the previous version which I did manage to get a couple of games of it, does seem like it is an improvement. One thing is for sure, coming from a GW and FoW background, it was difficult to get these rules and play them, but once I did, wow...what great fun it was. I have not played FoW since 2006 and am put off by what that company has been doing...FoW of who?? I prefer Command Decision: Test of Battle, GHQ's WWII and modern, IABSM just to name a few.

Although there are a few Cads involved with gaming, it really should say'card driven'

Could be a tad more interesting though.

Market-Garden

Post by ACWBill »

Hello Gents, I cannot for the life of me, remember if I ever posted any shots of my huge Market-Garden Campaign here on the GHQ site. So if I did, my apologies. If not, here are a few of hundreds of shots. The Campaign was run at Jax Garrison's Rapier 2007. The table was 34 ft long and was from 5 -10ft wide. It featured all the salient points. We used Spearhead Rules. The Germans won after blowing the Nijmegen Bridge right in the face of the onrushing Thirty Corps Advance Guard. Enjoy.

Bill - Far as I'm concerned you can post it here as many times as you want! I don't think I could ever grow tired of looking at your amazing games -- ACW or WW2 or whatever!

You never fail to amaze me with not only the size but more importantly the detail of what you do. And I must also give a nod to your accuracy. I feel like it might just as well be architectural models of the towns when I look at the terrain. You get the feeling a resident from there would be looking for their front door!

Thanks for setting the standards!

Bill that is Fantastic!

Just awesome. I'll bet spearhead was a pretty good set of rules for such a large undertaking. Thanks for sharing your work here. I really appreciate it.

Hi Bill

That is a great looking game. I remember seeing some of your excellent work at Historicon and maybe I will get a chance to go again sometime. That is quite a spectacle and shows what can be done in 1/285 and 6mm.

Your comments are appreciated. Pete, if you're going to Historicon in July I will be bringing my Fredricksburg Fire & Fury terrain and scenario. I just couldn't resist doing Fredricksburg in Fredricksburg. Here are a couple of appetizer shots.

Bill that is awesome makes me want to really get to work on my D-day Omaha beach terrian. Any suggestions from a master of terrian from the looks of it? Couple questions for you.

1.) Where did you get most of the buildings on the terrian board?
2.) How often do you resuse the terrian boards are most of the objects ie.. buildings trees etc. static or movable?
3.) I will be attending Historicon 2012 this year what other games if any are you hosting?
4.) Speaking of Historicon 2012 when does online registration open up? Cant find any information what so ever on it. The website has a link but as of yesterday still link dead.

thanks

Spent most of the time that I was at Historicon 2011 just taking in your scenery! Can't wait for 2012!

Hi Bill

I remember seeing your Fredericksburg game at one of my previous trips to Historicon. It is a truly awesome looking game and I know a lot of work went into creating it.

1.) I have purchased buildings from many different sources over the years. For 10mm I have used Starfort, Timecast, Old North State and other lines most of which are available from Battelfield Terrain Concepts.

2.) I will only be running my Fredricksburg game and plan to spend the remaining time spending what my friend Dave Winfree calls my hard-earn, not-to-be-squandered minaitures funds. Historicon link is alive, but the pre-registration and game registration links are usually activated after Cold Wars is over.

Hi all

We played a WRG Moderns tournament here in Auckland, NZ back in Feburary and I've added a battle report to my website. The theme was the Cold war 1984, NATO vs WARPAC, with 10 players (5 per side).

The website is http://6mm.wargaming.info and the battle report is here

http://6mm.wargaming.info/page47.shtml

Next I will go through the last of the construction photos to show the completed boards and add a second part to the terrain boards article.

And here's some teaser pictures from the event

I saw your board construction on another thread. Very innovative. Well done Kieran. Nice looking boards and the miniatures are well-painted too.
