Hey GhQ should make like a science-fiction miniatures range with big tanks, walkers and stuff. But it should look more realistic than for example GW: Epic. Who played new Battlefield 2142 knows what im talking about :D

wwI terrain pics

Post by David F »

Tom,
I believe the terrain was mine. I will put some pics back up tomorrow. I owe someone else (JB I think) some posted pics of my armor and figs as well. I haven't had the chance to do anything new since then. I just got back 3 weeks ago from another tour to OIF. Boy, that one-year stuff really puts a crimp on your hobbies. I am getting back to my gaming and terrain making as we speak.
I was putting around with a rule system to boot. The stands were to be pennies (2 cm's across) and they would represent 3-4 men. Armor would be one foe one....Well, the rules would be a bit of a way off though. Maybe when I am done I can get GHQ to take a look? :)

David F,

Welcome back!! If I am getting the "OIF" acronym correct, that would be "Operation Iraqi Freedom"... but even if I'm wrong, I hope I am speaking for many (if not most) of us in welcoming you back to "home" -- and to our little corner of the world!

When time permits, I look forward to seeing more of your pictures and reading the descriptions of "how you did it"!

Regards,
Tom Stockton

I second this suggestion! I'm building armies for near future / speculative fiction games. This allows me to use late "old" 20th century stuff ... you know, for third world countries and the marines! :D ... as well as current and near term / near-sci-fi stuff like unmanned (as opposed to merely uninhabited) UCAVs, full body armor, mini-mechs/battlesuits/powered armor, mechs, etc.

The problem is that most sci-fi stuff is just too weird (most mechs look VERY fragile... more like walking helicopters than walking AFVs). I'd prefer "hard sci-fi" miniatures or maybe a better term would be "speculative fiction" miniatures. Stuff that makes sense with some sort of internal logic to the designs.

I'm just returning to micro-armor after a long diversion to 15mm. A friend of mine (who is a dedicated micro-armor gamer) and I have noted that micro-armor "suffers" from some common perceptions that sometimes turn people off, especially in light of rules development geared to other scales.

These perceptions include the idea that micro-armor is dominated by super-detailed, bottom-up wargame rules and that there's little interest in the "art" of gaming in this community. To some larger-scale gamers micro-armor represents the bad old days of spray painted minis placed on an old green blanket over books and rules of mind-numbing detail (you know...1 move every hour or so). Given that this sort of gaming was more common in the 70s and 80s, it probably also probably brings back other bad memories of cloths and hair too! :D (I had a "liesure suit" in the 70s but I was just a very little kid then...not my fault, blame mom and dad!!!)

Anyway, maybe expansion into a slightly more creative "era", combined with top-down, results-oriented rules might attract new fans of micro-amor (I suppose this links back to another thread!) Based on the figures I've seen on this forum and my friend's presentation I know that spray painted (or unpainted!) minis are no longer the order of the day here. My friend's WWII micro-armor games are absolutely beautiful and look like paintings! (He actually uses pastels on a sheet to custom "paint" each battlefield and then adds buildings, trees, etc.)

Anyway, here's my vote to tie two ideas together: create a "speculative fiction" line of near-future military hardware (VTOLS rule!), combine it with a top-down results-oriented rule set, and do so with an eye towards attracting new gamers (customers!) to the micro-armor community. Think "Tom Clancy 2140".

Tim (this is not your dad's micro-armor!)

My personal preference for a "new" line -- the 1:1250 / 1:1200 scale ship "genre". Yes, I know, there are many producers there already, and there are some really outstanding models already available. But I've also noted that whatever GHQ chooses to model turns out very, very well -- and despite all that has been done in the 1:1250 / 1:1200 scale ship world, there is still quite a bit to be done there.

Unfortunately, they can't do everything... (sigh) So given the available time, manufacturing ability, etc., I would have to agree with those who wish GHQ to "fill out" existing lines before starting an entirely new "genre" -- there's still quite a bit to be done with 1:285 WW II to modern era armor, 1:2400 ships, 10mm ACW's, etc., etc.

My two cents worth...

Tom Stockton

Perhaps it works like this :

1. Fill the gaps of existing ranges ( including pontoon bridges )
2. Then make trains
2b Some more buildings as hangars, train stations and city buildings
3. Followed by Aircraft and their equipment
4. Civilian cars, trams aso

5. AFTER that, and ONLY if there is further time, please do " thirty years war "

And then, perhaps, in the late years of this century, do some WW1 for those, who like to sit immovable in trenches, with detonating shells above their heads

and whats one man's junk is another man's treasure

INDEED

...maybe you need to go to a different thread,or start a new one with your ideas here. Correct me if I'm wrong ,but the title of this thread is "Proposals for entirely new line from GHQ"
Honestly Bullseye, your ideas for trains and others is appreciated but this idea of subduing others ideas is ,is ....well :? :) ..but,I'm sure that GHQ will take whatever ideas they see and run with it.

Didn´t i make proposals for completely ( or partial ) new lines ? :D

Completing existing ranges ? ( would be very, very new  )
a) Maintainance equipment
b) Pontoon bridges with transportation

all 1/285

Then the interesting range 30 years war ... completely new 1/285

Airfield range, including building like towers, hangars...completely new 1/285

Trains... completely new 1/285

And i only made the advice to wait a little bit longer with the WW1 range, didn`t see, that my arguments annoyed you so much

And discussion, i really dislike to repeat it, means : arguments pro AND contra. And only saying . i want i want i want ww1 t isn´t a discussion, isn´t it ? ( please lool at point for of the game rules  )
So i would like to read your detailed arguments : PRO WW1

And don´t forget : it´s only a hobby and should be fun and not a religious war 8)

Here again the game roles :

1) It must have at least ten models that could be bought in quantity (no obscure vehicles in the ten)
2) It can be complimentary to an existing line (i.e modern South Africans)
3) Specify the scale (eg if you want a WWI line, should in be in 1/285th or 10mm)
4) Justify why it's a hole that needs to be filled in GHQ's catalogue. ("it's cool" is acceptable, but generally frowned upon, be more specific.)

btw : i mentioned, that i would like to see WW1 in 10mm, didn´t i ?

Thanks for your attention :)

Mmmmmmm, too much more of this and I will have to send in a Carrier Battle Group to help in peace keeping duties..

Out of the 4 companies I know of that make 1:2400 ships GHQ are head and sholders above the rest, so let's help keep it that way and stop any bickering about who said what to whom. Let's get on with the matter in hand and suggest what everyone would like to see the release in the future.

As the saying goes, all good things come to those who wait.

Mark. (SeaHarrier2006)

P.S. Did I mention they should release some more modern Royal Navy ships, I'm sure I did somewhere.

Bull`s eye I thought I was the only one thinking about 30 Years War. Wow now that would be great in 6mm. And nobody does a 30 Years War line in the scale. I have made do with others but GHQ would do a great job.
Anyhow, I think its a dream but that would be so cool.

Yes, it would be fantastic. And due to the fact, that the newer figures are all a little bit oversized to show details, it would be a great line, cause there are no vehicles which seem to be too small.

Movement engagement, big field battles, sieges, the beginning of modern fortresses, new tactics...
A turning point in warfare. And i like the wealth of colours

And 1/285 would be the right scale to rebuilt these masses of " landsknechte " and so on

Nice to find a 30 years war comrade :)

btw: that´s what i mean with maintenance
