Ahem. I believe you meant to say 45mph.

It was my father's favorite. He wouldn't have known a kilometer if it bit him on the @ss.

Oh, and he insisted they were driving them around at more than 50mph.

I agree, AT LEAST 50mph. Maybe 60.

What was the number of tanks in a Soviet tank battalion of a motorized rifle regiment in the late 1970s? What is it now?

M18 Hellcat. According to Jane's World Armoured Fighting Vehicles edited by Christopher F Foss (1976), it's speed was 88.5kph, which converts to 53mph and change.

That's impressive! My HMMWV could barely go 50 mph and then it would start shaking and rattling and sound like it was coming apart!

PG, the tank battalion of a Motor Rifle Rgmt was 40.
Platoons of 4, 3 platoons plus company Cmdr.
3 companies plus Battalion Commander.

Currently, platoons of 3 unless they changed from late 1990s.

40 MBTs in the MRR tank battalion in the 70s, now 31 although some sources say the Russians are moving away from a strict regimental structure to more flexible brigades.

Chris beat me to it rats.

Rose was notable for being the most senior US general KIA. IIRC, he tried to go head to head with a Tiger in his jeep. He was machined gunned though.

Ca v Dog, right on Rose. Commanded 3rd Armored Division at the time.

Russian brigade combat teams are built around MRRs. They add stuff to make things more interesting.
